Heading South

An interesting road sign in Mission Beach was this one warning of cassowarys. Evidently, there must be a lot of these flightless birds living in the surrounding rain forests. They’re smaller than Emus, but have an distintive bone at the top of their heads. I’ve been told that you should consider yourself lucky if you see one of these birds in the wild, unless of course you see one in the middle of the road from a speeding car!

The weather became rainy as we arrived in Townsville again. Originally, we were going to head inland, but were conerned about the amount of  available accomodations as the tourist population decreased further inland. With just a couple of weeks remaining in our trip, we’re pretty worn out trying to find places to stay for our two-year old!
