Mustang Motor III

mustang motor

Thanks for all the advice on how to get my lifters out. The high tech way was to buy a special slide hammer that was designed to attach to a stuck lifter. The low tech way was to use a pair of vice grips and yank them out of their bores! I managed to get them out by using a combination of techniques. I first soaked the lifters for a couple of days, and then I decided to try pulling the cam. I found that if I pulled the lifters up as high as they would go, I could get the camshaft out. With the camshaft out of the way, I could tap the lifters back down and let drop down into the block to remove them out the bottom of the motor.
bearing

When I looked at the first rod bearing shell, I was glad I decided to rebuild this engine this winter! The soft gray metal material of the bearing had all but worn away! The main bearing shells were no better.

I stripped my engine down to the bare block, and the next big step is to get it down to the machine shop for some cleaning, and measuring. These measurements will determine what size pistons I’ll have to buy and whether the crank is reusable.
