PF Brakes, Coils, and Fuel

PF Brakes, Coils, and Fuel

Wheel Cylinders

The brake cylinders came back from the brake rebuilders for the PF Coupe this week at François’ shop, so I  moved back on that project. The master cylinder was rebuilt as well, so I got to work putting together the big drum brakes.
brake drums

I used to pretty intimidated with Ferrari drum brakes, but now that I rebuilt all four corners on the PF Coupe, I’ve found there isn’t that much to them. I think they’re actually easier to assemble than a set of Ford drums!
cotter pin holes

The usual tricks apply when assembling the rear hubs in lining up the cotter pin holes before sliding the hub onto the splines. Someone marked the axle shaft with the orientation of the cotter pin already, but a line drawn from a magic marker works fine as well.
RTV

RTV on the large washer that goes down on the axle shaft also insures gear oil doesn’t migrate out past the washer and the axle nut.
coil and resistors

I also worked on the coils that went on the Cal Spyder stamping the resistors with the kit we bought from Parker Hall.
resistors

It took a steady hand and a deliberate motion to get the stamp not to smudge. Once I got the hang of it, François had me stamp the rest of the resistors that were recently painted. I stopped drinking my morning coffee for this!
fuel pump

I prepped the fuel pump for installation on the Cal Spyder. A gasket had to be cut, and the drive shaft had to be fitted to the pump. A burr had to filed down so the square drive would slide on without effort.
fuel hose

One of the fuel line fittings had to be changed, so I set it in François’ custom fuel line fixture. He took two pieces of aluminum and machined the diameters of three popular hoses. There are relieved to hold the ferrules along with the spiral wound hose.

Just a reminder, I’m looking for a new Vintage Ferrari Project. If you have, or know of a restoration project, please let me know. It would be great to restore another car on this website! My E-mail.
