Little 330 Details

sway bar links

I’m still waiting for some chrome and cadmium plating to return from my platers so I can finish the black 330GT, but there was still a bunch of little things to address like the sway bare bushings. They were pretty worn out, and would probably knock pretty loudly under cornering.
new bushings

New bushings were pressed into place.
gas cap remote lever

A small project I’ve been working on is to get the remote gas door release to work. The old cable had rusted and seized fast inside the old sheathing, so we had to find a new one and replace the bad cable. Finding a cable longer than three meters was a challenge, but we finally got something long enough for our application.
cable loop

A new braided steel cable was installed, but I needed to secure a loop to one end. I swaged the end by using a short piece of brake line and smashing it flat to hold the cable together.
hood pad

I convinced the owner to splurge a little on this car and replace the hood pad the previous owner had installed.
old pad

The stuff on the car was the foil backed stuff you find insulating transmission tunnels under the upholstery. It gave the engine compartment a cheap hardware store look. The new hood pads available are supposed to be the closest reproduction piece that can be found, so we bought one.
braces

With the old hood pad stripped from the hood, I quickly sanded and polished the hood pad stays. It’s the little details like these that really go a long way to making the engine compartment shine!
installed

The reproduction hood pad is a little warmer in tone than the original hood pads, but is a dead match in texture and shine. Now the owner can be proud to show off his engine without the old dime store insulation in prominent view!
spark plug tube

With the spark plug tubes freshly painted I started installing new wires. A common omission on spark plug tubes is the grommet that insulates the wire from the tube. I see many cars missing these grommets, and there’s a good reason for this…
grommets

…It’s a real pain in the butt to install! With some patience and the right sized grommet, I installed the correct pieces and the details are now correct.

Quail Cocktail Party
Quail party

I’ll be out in Monterey again this year, and I’d like to invite you to an informal gathering of Tomyang.netters at the Quail Lodge on Thursday August 16th, 5:30-8:00pm. The cocktail party will be held behind the Lodge by the pool overlooking the greens where the big Quail show will be setting up the next day. It’s a great chance to put faces to names that we hear on the Internet, and meet some of the restorers, parts suppliers, and owners of Vintage Ferraris. I hope to see you there!

Reminder: If you have a Ferrari related project, car, or idea you’d like to explore, I’d love to talk to you. I can also help if you’re thinking of buying or selling. This website represents what I love to do, and now it’s how I make a living, so if you’d like to do something together, let me know. It all begins with an e-mail!
