A Couple of Little Projects

seat anchor

I have a couple of cars at the shop that required a little bit of time between the other jobs. One of them required fixing a seat mounting bolt. The seats on many Ferraris have a square capture nut for the seat bolts to anchor to the seat rails. Sometimes these capture nuts seize, or the cage to the capture nut breaks and the bolt free spins insided the seat rail. A previous owner had this happen to this 330 and replaced the bolt with a smaller bolt that wasn’t nearly as strong or as safe, so I decided to fix this problem the right way. First I had to cut the boxed section open with a cut-off disc to gain access to the capture nut.
welded tab

The trick was to tack weld the cage of the capture nut without welding the nut too. I think I got my welds in the right place, and welded the box section back together. Now the seat will be strongly attached to the seat rails, and everything is as it should be in a Vintage Ferrari!
door panel

Another project was for a 365GT we have at the shop. The arm rest on one of the door panel was split and damaged. Instead of replacing the whole door panel, we replaced only the arm rest. We could have replaced the whole door panel with new leather so everything would match, but then it wouldn’t match with the rest of the car.
arm rest

It’s certainly an improvement over the old one! I’m sure with some leather treatment and some use, the new armrest will start to match the old interior in no time.
parking brake boot

I had a parking brake boot made too and will be installing all these pieces next week.

California Trips

I’m heading to Los Angeles for a week starting on the 26th of July, and was wondering if anyone wants to get together? I may try to plan an dinner one night so I can meet up with some Southern California Vintage Ferrari owners. I’m open to suggestions and look forward to hearing from you!

It’s also time to start thinking about Monterey! For those lucky enough to score tickets to Quail, they will be going on Friday the 15th, but his year the schedule has changed a little bit where Concorso Italiano will be held on Saturday the 16th of August and Pebble Beach for the usual Sunday the 17th. I plan to host my cocktail party on Thursday night, the 14th at the back deck of Quail Lodge from 5:30pm until 8pm, and I hope you can join us.
Quail party

There will be appetizers and an open bar, and the location allows us to watch the cars load onto the greens at Quail Lodge the night before the show.

My plans this year is to be at the Bonhams Auction for the preview days and Auction on Friday the 15th. Mark Dempsey is selling his Platinum winning 365GT 2+2 at Bonhams, and will be be there to root him on. Saturday will be spent at Concorso as this will be the first year I will be able to enjoy this show without the distraction of the Quail Show. Sunday will be Pebble Beach, but sometime during the weekend, I’ll have to find time to go to the track. As my schedule changes, I’ll let you know, but please let me know if you want to meet up and we’ll figure it out!
