Audrain 2023

I was invited back to the 2023 Audrain Concours D’elegance in Newport Rhode Island, and as always the welcome party was at one of the estates in Newport.

The Audrain Concours was just the final event on Sunday, but it was a week long event with the welcome party on Thursday. “The Gathering” which happened in Friday is fashioned like the “Quail Motorsports Gathering” in Monterey during the west coast car week. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate this year, so Friday’s event was pretty wet.

Donald Osborne, Jay Leno, Nic Waller, and Dave Kinney who host this event, would love to have this event grow into the the Monterey of the East, and they are attracting some very significant cars and collectors!

The rain continued to fall on Saturday, but that didn’t stop this Delahaye and Delage to participate on the rally. I got a ride in Johnathan Stein’s MGB-GT V8.

I got another ride over to the Concours Sunday morning in Evan Clary’s new Porsche 912!

Dave Kinney, the Chief Judge, appointed me Chief Class Judge for European Sports cars 1960-1980 which had a varied class of cars with only one Ferrari in the field of 8! I, along with two other judges worked very hard to be fair and objective in selecting out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cars, but this was the hardest job I had in the last three years of judging. Unfortunately, I was working so hard inspecting, listening to each of the owner’s stories, and conferring with my co-judges, I didn’t get to take any pictures except for this one of the judges area! If they invite me back next year, I may try to do a more in depth piece for this blog, or video about the process of judging.
