Yvo Alexander's 250 GTE SN 3961

It was in June 1999 when on a summer break with my girlfriend in California
that we parked our rental car (to get a roll of film) in front of Heritage
Classics on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood.
After the purchase of a roll of film, we visited the Classic Car dealer and
were shown around by a friendly English sounding gentleman Edward Gibson.
In a row of several vintage Ferrari's there was a nice Pininfarina designed
1962 250 GTE series II that reminded me of the Dinky Toy car that I had when
I was very young, it even had the same colour.

We flew back to good old Europe and back in the Netherlands I was introduced
to Arie Mandemakers www.ame-engineering.nl who was restoring a friend's
silver Ferrari 250 GTE with s/n 4507.
After several weeks I decided to have a look on the website of Heritage
Classics www.heritageclassics.com to check if the car had been sold or not.
It was not sold yet and on August 23 1999 I became the proud owner of the
Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 with S/N 3961 for $36.500,-

The car was shipped from Long Beach to Rotterdam in the Netherlands were it
arrived on October 15 1999.
That very day Arie Mandemakers and myself picked up the car and on a trailer
drove it to the AME workshop in Kesteren for restoration.
The engine was not so great after all and had to be taken apart. The
rebuilding of the engine and restoration of many other parts were
accomplished by March 2001.

Ever since I have driven many vintage rallye with the 250 GTE both in the
Netherlands with the Ferrari Club Netherlands www.ferrari-club.nl and
abroad.
The last international rallye was the Three Castles Classic Welsh Trial in
June 2003 http://www.dacorsa.net/1486.0.html.
The ultimate in 2003 was an invitation to the Concours d'Élegance Paleis Het
Loo in Apeldoorn (Netherlands)on 30 and 31 August 2003
