Re: Ferraris were meant to be...?

I just drove my "old car" to work today in the rain. The inspiration was Irv Gordon (of the 2.7 million mils 1966 Volvo P1800 fame). Did a little more research for him and not only does he drive the wheels off that thing, it is not a garage car. He parks it outside and drives it in the snow. All the...

Re: Yeah Tom!!!!!

This is SO AWESOME. I always wondered how it was like watching your America from "entry one". Now, I'll know. A suggestion: Bandwidths have increased a lot since you first started this site. One or two sizes up in picture size? Your videos are a win and production quality is very good. Have a blast,...

Re: Horn Detailing

I gotta hand it to you guys! I'm in awe of the thought and care you're all paying to horns . Not owning a piece of history, it must add another dimension and complexity to restoring a car. Too many people are lazy and "go modern" to fix a piece, component or assembly. Oftentimes not doing as good of...

Gordon Brown today blamed OPEC for restricting supply. But this is not the case. Supply is meeting demand. America and Europe are using less, developing countries are using more, but there is no shortage. Your situation is outrageous. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Britian (& Norway) a net expo...

Add me to the list of ex-Optima customers. My Supra had one. Not exactly a hard car to start. Failed in 18 months. For some reason, I know way more about batteries than I should. I have some general rules about batteries and cables. Bigger is almost always better as they almost always deliver more C...

With all the information available with just a few clicks, there is no excuse for not knowing how something works. I'm Tom Y's age and like him, my dad could barely change a light bulb. I consider it a personal failing if I don't know something I think I should. I'm very embarassed to say I don't kn...

Hey Dan,

Glad to see someone doing that kind of work. Did you by chance happen to document it with photos?

Coincidentally, I read this 23 page article a few days ago. All 20,000 words. The article never mentiones the lubricating properties engines needed back then (Back when you were lucky to get 100K out of an engine). It often referred to "other alternatives" to anti-knock methods with no backup. Also,...

The Peugeot 505 that had metal bars that anchored both front seats to each other under the car. So it's an option car makers have used in the past. Some common-sense reinforcing sould suffice, I'd figure.

I think this "keeping copious notes" thing is a good idea. But, it can lead to the standard disclaimer... "Advise for complete rebuild" on everything. With this brave new world comes some benefits of the "new age". Photo-documentaton. Sure, it's a PITA to document things with pictures and good notes...

Art: That's nice to know. My suspicion is that one way for an owner to justify the bump in the "value" of a car is to subject it to an "overhaul". It's nice to know that properly built and maintained - these are stout engines. I'd rather see something like: " Like it or not, values are going up. Thi...

Am I the only one wondering how many times it's had a complete engine overhaul in its 62.6K miles?! Let's say somebody owns a vintage Ferrari and drives it every weekend. Never using it as a grocery getter. Putting some 7-10K on it a year. Following factory service schedule, what can one expect a st...

Cutting my teeth on Supras, I know a little about the car. Perhaps you could fill in the blanks. What the original motor the first of the M family of motors? Was the head or any part of the engine build by Yamaha? They had an active role in the head design of the 7M and I hear the 2J. Yamaha also bu...

Listen while at computer. Have an iPAQ PDA that can handle them, but I'm just motivated enough to transfer them. With "PODCasts", I always stream and listen to them at once, never saving them. Broadband will do that to you. But, I usually don't listen to PODCasts. They're usually very boring. Writin...
