Re: My 365GT2+2's smoking habit

Richard, Thanks for the response. I've tried both Castrol 20/50 and Swepco 20/50. I believe Swepco is in there now. I don't use synth on old cars that weren't designed for it. My Queen is a Euro model. I'll see what sort of PCV system is on it, but I don't recall seeing any hoses or valves to the va...

Re: My 365GT2+2's smoking habit

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts. I'll first try a compression test (I thought of it after I had put all the plugs back in!) to see what #11 is doing. I'll then likely take the valve covers off, and possibly the rocker assembly, and see what shape the stem seals are in. I guess it could be the gu...

Re: My 365GT2+2's smoking habit

Michael, nothing is dumb when it comes to these cars! If anything, I probably need to add some oil, so I know I haven't overfilled it. That is assuming my dip stick is accurate! -steve At the risk of appearing realllly dumb, I would ask if it is possible that you have overfilled the oil sump. I did ...

Re: My 365GT2+2's smoking habit

Thanks, Jim, for the reply. I started off with a leak down test to be sure there wasn't something obviously wrong. I didn't have the valve cover off, so I couldn't see exactly TDC. I was looking at the distributor to figure out which cylinder was on the compression stroke. I moved the engine with th...

Yup - I'm sure it's oil. It certainly smells like oil!

My 365GT2+2's smoking habit

I'd like to get to the bottom of why my Queen smokes a bit as I plan to put it up for sale, and if there is a straightforward and cost effective fix, I'd like to get it done. The car has less than 40K miles on it. About 6K miles ago, the previous owner replaced all the valves as the stem ends weren'...

This may be a good thing. I am hoping that the old cars will gravitate to one of the events and leave the new cars at the other. Time will tell.

Besides, I thought it was also about meeting up with friends? :)

Re: Road Trip!

In the meantime, who are the other Queen owners on the West Coast? I know we've got Knudsen and now Dick - that's three in the Bay Area alone...anyoe else? Maybe a meeting of the Queens is in order (and any other model, too) :D I have a silver/blue 1968 Queen, but I live up in the Sierra foothills....

A bit of good news -- the front suspension is almost on. That only leaves the rear suspension, the cooling system, the fuel system, and the ignition to sort . . . and I'm going to Maine next week. Time pressure constraints require that I remove the non-functional rear areal from the list of to-dos....

Tom, I"ve tried to convince xs10shl to bring one of his cool cars down many times. Hopefully you'll have better luck! BrianP - glad to see the Mondial will be doing the tour. I would rather see the cars in a more dynamic setting in Carmel on thursday, than a static, and expensive setting Sunday morn...

I have a single ColorTune somewhere. They are expecially useful for tuning SU carburettors as the mixture on these typically is constant from idle through higher RPM's. JohnV, you are welcome to borrow it, assuming I can find it in my garage!

Excellent, John! Will you be driving the old girl to Monterey this year? -steve I wanted to close the loop on this issue. I removed the oil pan to inspect the short section of rubber hose in the scavenger plumbing, suspecting it to be the culprit. But the hose was fine. The strainer (what works as a...
