Re: 250 GTE 'Rumble' in drivetrain

Zac Dugger was kind enough to come by the house yesterday. We ran the car with the diff off the ground and had a good look at the wheels, tires, driveshaft.... everything looked and sounded great. Tracking down the noise, it appears to be a pinion bearing as the sound is clearly in the center of the...

Re: 250 GTE 'Rumble' in drivetrain

Hi Tom The low frequency rumble can be heard and felt in the seat. It begins as the car gathers speed and is most noticeable at 100 KPH.... that's when you can really feel/hear it. The frequency does not change with speed. The noise does seem to diminish as speed exceeds 120 KPH, but that could be b...

Revisiting 250 GTE Rear springs and ride height

After a lengthy time away from home getting some much needed repairs, #3077 is finally back. As you may recall in my original post, the car sagged in the rear with approximately 26-1/2" measured from ground to top of fender arch through the center of the wheel. The car also handled very poorly, with...

Re: 250 GTE 'Rumble' in drivetrain

Having had the car gone for so long, I neglected to search previous posts.... and sure enough a lengthy post about precisely the same problem. So I now have to figure out how to approach this, as I am in a remote area with limited resources for repair. Will keep you all advised, and welcome any comm...

250 GTE 'Rumble' in drivetrain

After a year at the repair shop (long story), 3177 is back home. It now has a rumble in the drivetrain, which is most noticeable at 100 KPH. Since there were many repairs done to the car since having it last, I am interested in the forum's opinions as to how to approach this. 1. The transmission and...

Re: 4247 GT is heading for Monterey!

Tom - been following your progress. If my overdrive ever arrives at Zac's shop, I may join you and the others at Monterey. Considering it's 3 weeks away..... that's probably a long shot. My car has essentially been ready since March, albeit the missing piece to complete the overdrive rebuild. In any...

Re: 330-SII removing rear muffler for more sound

My 250GTE was surprisingly quiet when I got it. I removed the front 2 mufflers, leaving the rear section as-is. What a difference. It is not too loud, doesn't drone, and (don't laugh) runs much better. Throttle response is crisper, and low end torque is not affected. The system is an ANSA that was r...

Looks great in white, Tom. A true labor of love getting it back on the road.
Hope to meet you some day-

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks

3177 is currently at DGR performance (Oceanside, Ca.) having the rear suspension, overdrive and transmission rebuilt. New (aftermarket) springs can be easily sourced, although mine were in good enough shape to be saved. A qualified spring shop in the area is putting 1-1/2" more ride height back into...

Re: Auction results

Looks like the 250 GTE market is still strong, based on the one sold at Gooding. See the attachment.

Re: 250 GTE Tire recommendations

I have received a recommendation from a reputable shop that has restored several GTE's that Blockley tires a suitable substitute. So I'll ask one more time before leaving this post - has anyone here fitted a set of Blockley 205/70 VR 15 tires to their car? The difference between the Michelin XWX and...

Re: fuel additives

Having read this post, I ordered a six pack of the fuel additive. One bottle was mixed with a fresh tank of fuel. I then drove the car about 120 miles. Does it run better? IMHO the answer is yes. Perhaps it was the drive, perhaps the weather.... maybe the moment. I do believe this is a good product....

250 GTE Instrument Panel Color

Next year I plan to strip 3177 to bare metal and give the car a high quality paint job. The car is currently black. The instrument panel/glovebox sheet metal is satin black, which looks very good but I doubt is original. The car came from the factory with a medium green metallic exterior and light t...
