Re: Driving the White Car

Congrats, Tom !
Let me know when you‘re ready for some spirited drives on ACH or other similar roads in around here and I’ll make an effort to join you.
Maybe you can soon start a new thread “Drifting the White Car (up in the mountains)”

Re: Cinturato tire pressure?

I can't recall experience with these particular tires on any specific car, but during past 40+ years of owning, restoring and driving several hundred thousand combined miles with large variety of vintage cars, I've come to understand that in most cases, "factory/OEM" tire pressure recommendations ar...

Re: Fuel Tank

While I’ve never had (nor wouldn’t have) any of my own or clients tanks coated/lined, I too have dealt with nightmarish consequences created by such treatments on few instances. Only somewhat reasonable sealing of minor leaks I’ve been successful with has been with some 2-component epoxies, but woul...

Re: Fuel Tank

John: DON'T DO IT!!!! Unless you have major seepage that cannot be repaired any other way, do not put a liner in the fuel tank. I have personally experienced way too many failed liners (from various reputable sources). I have seen engines severely damaged internally from liners sucked through the f...

Re: clutch drives me nuts - what is wrong here?

I concur with Toms comment about the flywheel bolt head thickness, but would also add that if new, thicker lock washers are being used, they too can bring bolt heads closer to disc center. Also, while not exactly same setup nor am I sure if it’s a common issue on earlier cars with “F & S”, but new r...

Re: Windshield Fitting

Assuming the car in question is a PF C. or GTL and assuming trim molding is embedded to rubber seal in similar fashion as it is in Daytona, all three (glass, seal & molding) are assembled and then installed together. A lot of different variations do exist, depending on make/model/year/etc. Finally, ...

Re: Value of GTE

Few peanut gallery observations to consider : A. Was #1 condition in ‘99 considered or perceived identical or even similar to what it is today ? Mind you that even today there appear to be huge variations in what people perceive or present as #1 condition while only very small percentage accurately ...

Re: GTE Motor Mounts help

It might also be a good idea to check front & rear suspension ride height adjustments ("stance" level ?) first, especially if engine "slope" adjustment appear to require excessive(?) amount of spacers.

Re: Bad experience with ANSA exhaust system

Nothing unusual, in my opinion. In the past 30-40 years I've installed a lot of different replacement exhaust systems, both custom and OEM-type, to many vintage cars, including several Ferraris and I can't recall ever seeing a set that didn't require some bending, cutting, heating, welding or other ...

Re: Replace/Fix GTE Fan Clutch

Little difficult to confirm from picture angles and having never serviced unit exactly like this, but having rebuilt/restored similar set ups in other applications, looks to me like something I would expect to see is missing. If any one has photos of identically disassembled, but non-problematic com...

Re: Tach Driver

Personally, I wouldn't use solder for sealing it, but perhaps a light skim coat of urethane or similar type sealant between the housing and fresh/new expansion ("freeze") plug. Using brass expasion plug sounds like a viable alternative. Also, I'd take a good look at the locations of those cotter pin...

Re: Tach Driver

John,
The end caps in your photo appear similar to freeze-plugs and as such might've been just intended to be press fit with no sealant required and cotter pins added for extra security. Perhaps the soldering was a service attempt to repair a leak discovered after the unit had been put to use.

Re: Bumper rechrome costs

Are you sure about those numbers or is there some extremely unusual features on these bumpers ? Surely they must be something much more complicated than found on Ferraris. For past 20+ years I've used a plating service that's been around almost 100 years and has been supplying countless Pebble Beach...
