Re: Yet another Daytona carburetor question

For what it is worth, a properly tuned Daytona, even on crap California fuel, will run fine if the camshaft and ignition timing is set right and the carburetors are set right (and not warped along the base as most are from mechanics over tightening them). From experience, most of the problems I've r...

128C Diff Pre-load & Backlash

Does anyone know the correct pre-load and backlash for a Type 128C differential that uses ball bearings, not tappered roller bearings that are used in the differentials of later cars? According to the bearing manufacturers, I can guess by just cutting the load in half, but I'm sure somewhere out the...

250 Series II Cab, what VIN overdrive started?

Does anyone know what VIN Ferrari started using the Laycock overdrive transmission?

Or, more specifically, would 2077 originally have had the overdrive?

Thanks,

Steve

Daytona strips are vinyl, not leather, and with a cross hatch pattern different than the posted picture and the holes are punched through. If you need them, Mike Regalia has the best I've seen (closest to the real thing).

If Tom says he has some, I'm sure he's got the right ones for you.

Tom, Oh, com'on, you love this stuff. Even my GTO (85) came with a jack bag with the "cardboard" lining. But, the spark plug wrench is completely different. This does look similiar to my 308 spark plug wrenches. My eyes are no longer good enough to tell from the pictures. The briefcase kit ones are ...

Yes, NGK heat ranges are the higher the number, the cooler the plug. I use BP7ES and BP6ES in my Daytonas, C/4, etc. In general, in California, the warmer BP6ES is a better plug. You also run a larger gap than normal. Lots of technical mumbo-jumbo here, but the bottom line is that the California for...

I've had good luck gutting my old relays when they fail and putting in a new bosch relay unit inside the old, original, relay housings. Looks great and fools the Judges.

In my experience the two most common reasons are failed bulb or bad ground. The bulbs use the housing for the ground.

I use Goldline Brakes in Seattle, Washington for all my brake booster, master cyliner and caliper work, as does restoration shops like Bob Smith. (877) 347-2225. I've never had a problem, so far. We used to use Stainless Steel Brakes for the calipers, but they no longer will rebuild/restore brake ca...

Jimmy, Good for you. I drive my Daytonas all the time. One can usually spot one of the Spyders at the local burger joint in Los Gatos, California. Someone mentioned something about a Daytona overheating. Daytonas don't do this unless something is wrong. I've sat many a time in stop-and-go traffic du...

I believe the four motor mounts were used to try and keep the whole driveline aligned. Once Ferrari went to the torque tube, they were able to go to a two mount system. Those four motor mount systems with open driveshafts on short nose two cams are a drag. My 4cam, GTC, Daytonas, etc. are soooooo mu...

As noted, Michelin, and Pirelli for that matter, do special runs of some of their vintage tyres that normally aren't kept in stock from time to time. Remember, Michelin has the molds, Coker, et. al., just have the distribution rights. So, it's up to Michelin to make the tyres. None of the Michelin v...

Yes, high compression and 10mm lift cams make the car go like a raped ape. But, at a cost. I would recommend you try a Type 130 cam car first. They're narly to drive around on the street. If it were me, I would go with high compression pistons and a little more aggresive cam on a two cam motor, say ...

My CA Spyder came with Type 130 10mm lift cams. Some 275 GTB/4 cars came with 10mm P7 cams. (10mm lift 2cam motor cams are called Type 130, 10mm lift 4cam motor cams are P7s, and 9.3mm (symmetric and asymmetric) 4cam motor cams are called P6.) All were available from the factory. I happen to own to ...
