Re: refurbishment of Alu strips on rocker rails

Hi Martin, I think blasting may remove more of the softer material that doesn't have the anodizing, which means you'll have to sand further down into the aluminum to flatten the surface. That's just my opinion. Try it, and see how much anodizing can be removed without damaging the rest of the surfac...

Re: Question for Tom... Vent Windows

Hi John, I have found it's often easier to have the window installed in the frame when lowering it into the door. I use blue tape to hold it in place as you lower the frame into the door. Each car is different, but it takes some maneuvering to get the lower tabs to clear the door opening, and it hel...

Re: Gauge lighting

Also, the dimmer might not work anymore. I'm not sure how much voltage the dimmable LEDs need to work, so you would have to try them out. The resistance wire in the dimmer on our cars cuts a lot of current out of the circuit, and it may be too much for the LED to work.

Re: Gauge lighting

LED replacements are probably your best bet. They draw less current, and I believe are cooler in temperature. The color of the lights can sometimes be disappointing as they tend to be colder in color (bluer). The original lights were incandescent so were a warmer color. I think more and more LEDs ar...

Re: Question for Tom... Vent Windows

Hi John,

I use strip calk, a 3M product. It's sometimes called dum-dum. It's a putty like substance that doesn't harden and is cleaned up with mineral spirits. I use it between the glass and the frame of the vent window. Later cars like the 330s have gasket, but this is what I do for the 250s.

Re: Original carpet binding and heel toe mat for 1960-1963 Ferrari

2259_281.jpg Here's a picture of original carpet binding on SN 2259. It's very thin with an exposed stitch. A common problem with redone interiors is the upholsterer sews the binding very wide. It takes skill and sometime a special guide to sew the binding tight and thin to the carpets. Most origin...

Re: refurbishment of Alu strips on rocker rails

Oh, yeah, I'm VERY familiar with sanding and polishing these pieces! They were originally clear anodized, but would have to be sanded and polished to a high shine before sending them out for anodizing which will dull the finish slightly. If you simply polish them, they will dull, and scuff easily. T...

Re: SI 330GT 2+2 cooling fan

Hi Kerry,

My thoughts exactly!

The SI 330s only use one fan, as I think the picture you sent is a SII car. By then, they eliminated the engine driven fan and installed two electric fans.

Thanks.

SI 330GT 2+2 cooling fan

Hi All, I pulled the radiator out of a SI 330GT to have a new core installed, and found this fan installed on the electric motor in front of the radiator. 5929_37.jpg On SI 330s, there are usually two fans, one driven by an electromagnetic clutch by the engine, and a second pusher motor in front of ...

I'm going to throw my 2 cents worth and agree. White cad plated nylocks with yellow plastic nylon. The bolts are black oxide.

Re: Carpet for 250 Gte

Hi Chris,

My upholsterer usually buys 10 yards of carpeting to do a 2+2 interior. This also allows extra to make extra floor mats.

I hope this helps.

Hi Rob,

You're welcome, as the pleasure was all mine! Sharing the fun of owning and driving these old Ferraris is what it's all about. I'm only doing what I would expect anyone else would do! Now get to work on that car!
