Re: Engine idle problem
Another possibility... I worked on a 212 that had the same issue. Linkage was good, throttle shafts were good, but the idle was inconsistent. After pulling the carbs off and going over them I found the return springs that wrap around the throttle shafts were set incorrectly, the tension was too low....

Re: 330 main bearing groove installation
It finally occurred to me that this is why many (if not all vintage V12s) see an oil pressure variation when you let off the gas. I have seen it on a couple of 330's, when you are on the gas the oil pressure is higher, when you let off the gas the oil pressure drops even though the RPM does not cha...

Re: 330 main bearing groove installation
True for a typical bearing that has the oil feed in the upper bearing. These engines have the oil feed in the lower bearing so they are the opposite, that is what was puzzling me.

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
Hi Mike, Your correct there is a risk, the ideal advance give you a peak cylinder pressure 10 to 15 degrees after top dead center. Some engine have to much compression and have the have the timing retarded from ideal to avoid detonation. Other engines will have a compression ratio that is low enough...

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
I my experience your idle speed by itself is not enough to cause it to pull fuel from the progressive circuit, but it does contribute a bit. Keep in mind I have not seen your car so everything may be fine. I commonly find this issue on DCO3’s used on early Jags. I’ve also seen it on a Miura, a Jeep ...

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
John, I am getting into the nuances of carb tuning that are a little deeper than is typically discussed in most guides. I would not rebuild the carbs based on my comments; frankly I doubt there is anything wrong with your carbs. I would suggest studying how these carbs work. In particular I recommen...

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
Hi John, Am I correct in assuming that by "plates" you mean the butterflies? If so I have no doubt they sealed just fine. However for the engine to run properly they have to be open a small amount. With Webers and Holleys and other similar carb designs the amount the butterflies are open is importan...

Re: See-thru tuning spark plugs
John, I do not believe your car is running right. The fact that you can turn your idle mixture screws all the way in tells me you are getting fuel from someplace else. You can get it running well in this situation, but when you get it running right you'll find it is a lot better than you expected. A...

Re: Axial Nut Torque Specification
Richard, Thanks for the reply. Actually I was looking for the torque specs for the nut that is inside the hub. The one that clamps the axial, hub and wheel bearing together and has the cotter pin in it. I am familar with the torque charts you refere to, I was just wondering if there was a specific t...

Axial Nut Torque Specification
Anyone know the torque specs for the axial nut (the one in the knock off hub) for a live axial car? I have been digging through all my referances but so far I have not been able to find it.

Re: Oil filter
I got a chance to check out the plumbing to the bypass oil filter on the PF coupe. Your right there is no check valve (only a small orifice) in the system and it is plumbed differently than the oil schematic you posted. On the PF the oil flow is bleed off the U shaped tube that goes from the pump to...

Re: Oil filter
I'm not sure I understand the bypass filter plumbing, as long as there is something that causes a pressure drop the oil will flow through the filter otherwise the oil will take the path of least resistance. Below are some detail shots of the oil cooler installation on the 212. 1-IMG_8197-002.JPG 1-I...

Re: Oil filter
Putting the cooler between the pump and the filter would be a common way to configure a lubrication system in general. I have not traced the 212 system out to see if it is done that way on the 212. You are correct, 100% of the flow should go through the cooler. Item 4 appears to be the filter, based...
