Re: Window Regulator

Hi John, having re-strung window regulators, I can tell to have plenty of patience. I actually use both coated and uncoated 3/32 wire rope to re-string the windows. I've found the biggest problem to be the small rollers mounted in the door frames which after years of use either break or seize. They ...

Re: Ice Storm

Tom, I'm so sorry to hear Debbie broke her leg! Any other good news Christmas cancelled? My brother lives in New Hampshire and is iced as well and no prospect of electricity until later this week. Bring on the global warming!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Weeping Heater Hoses

Hi Guys, I use a product called cooltrak which is a coolant test strip. It's not the most accurate but it will indicate ph level and freeze point. If you were to hold the test strip against the weeping coolant hose it would most likely change color and tell you if it's coolant or not. Depending on h...

Re: Need help with 330 Power Windows

Check with Geoff Ohland at Partsource, he usually carries those switches. Do yourself a favor, there were different switch manufacturers, so you may want to pull the switch and see if you can see any makers mark on the body.

Re: Coupe Rear Suspension and Phillips Head Screws

All these details get murky as time goes on. How many times has a door panel been removed to fix something or any other panel with slotted screws originally. Slotted pan head screws are also not easy to come by unless you know where to get them, so alot of shops and or mechanics through the years gr...

Re: Coupe Rear Suspension and Phillips Head Screws

Here's my two cents on screw heads. Most of the Italian cars I've owned or repaired, up to approximately 1964 to 1965 used slotted screw heads. Somewhere around 64 or 65 Italian car manufactures appeared to have switched. My 61 Giulietta Sprint Speciale uses slotted screws everywhere. In fact when I...

Tom, a couple of things to consider. I have seen many brand new cars drop valve seats, Toyotas, Lexus, BMWs, so don't beat yourself on not replacing the seats. It can happen with old seats or new seats especially in a 45 to 50m years old casting. Rich and I were discussing your situation and came to...

Hi everyone, as promised I have added a section on my website that explains how to make a wheel nut tool. www.rmccar.com If you go the the Tech Session you'll find the instructions and pictures to make the tool. More than once in the instructions you notice that I state if someone has a better idea ...

John, the fuel delivery pressure should be roughly 3 to 3.5 psi. The Weber manuals will tell you .2 to .3 kg/sq.cm whoch is 2.84 psi. Of course you have to maintain that pressure at higher rpms to maintain volume.

The only way to inspect it is to connect a pressure gauge to the output side of the pump and see how much pressure is created when you turn the wheel at idle. If there is no pressure it's possible the pressure relief valve is stuck in the open position or the control valve, which directs fluid to th...

Tom, I'm really sorry to hear about the valve seat. However, as you and I have seen, it could have been a lot worse. Tom do you have a borescope to see how bad or not so bad the damage is?

Steve, even with a click type torque wrench the extension changes the torque loading. If you are using just a straight extension that is on the same plane as the drive you are correct the torque stays the same. Snap-On used to carry a torque wrench calculator to figure it out. I'm old enough that I ...

GS, if you strip back some of the insulation on the plug wires, is there a few strands of copper wire or is there, for lack of a better term, nylon rope coated with carbon? Typically, noise supression wire uses a glass cord strand coated with carbon. The carbon conducts electricity but at a hgher re...

We've installed a lot of MSD boxes on vintage Ferraris with great success. The reason you can't use solid core wires is too much RF fequency emissions. The first MSD I installed on my own car I used solid core wires and I could not get the car started. I called MSD and that's where I found out you h...
