Re: 330GT 2+2 Door Checkstrap Questions????

Nice one Michael! I found some left over 10mm Stainless Steel bar in my off-cut metal rack today, so following Kerry’s measurements I started to make some Checkstrap pins. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/DarrenLCollins/checkstrappins001_zps64852909.jpg After making a pair of pins I went loo...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Grille

Thanks Tom, Not sure if we have one in the UK? Interesting. I am curious to know what they charge for machine time. I do worry about not being there to check and recheck as the parts are cut out. Not sure I could deal with the remoteness of this service. I'd bet if the part was wrong they'd have a c...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Grille

Looking at images on line it seems that the GTC had 4 horizontal vanes, and GT 2+2, both series I & II had 3. My guess then is that your grille was for a GTC Tom.

Re: 330GT 2+2 Grille

Was your grille a Series I or II ? This maybe the answer to the 3 v 4 vertical sections in the grille.

Mine is a Series I, it was also pop riveted together, with only the central and very outside vanes screwed with slot headed self tappers into spring clips. Every other fixings were pop rivets.

Re: 330GT 2+2 Grille

Thanks Tom, Very interesting. I'm curious to know why your grille has 4 horizontal pieces and mine has 3? (look at the slots in the short vertical parts) Also my vertical pieces have square folded ends, yours are semi circular? Again mine has every other vertical vane with a folded end and the other...

Re: Pins 1, Bolts 4

They do look good Kerry. I agree that they look much better than a nut and bolt. My old check straps measured a 6mm hole, so I imagine people have used M6 nuts and bolts, but pivoting on a threaded bolt is never a good Idea. Your pin at 5.6mm diameter seems a much better engineering solution. I pres...

330GT 2+2 Grille

Yesterday after work I started to look at the front grille again. The one I have is in very bad shape and has been painted several times silver and once black. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/DarrenLCollins/330grille002_zps7e537a6a.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/DarrenLCollins...

Re: Pins 1, Bolts 4

Hi Tom, Hmmm, I'd not considered Cadmium. Its got good corossion properties but is highly toxic. The process is banned in the UK and you'll only find it on aircraft over here. That's not to say it wasn't used in the 1960's. Is there much Cadmium plate on Ferrari's then? The check straps definately n...

Re: Pins 1, Bolts 4

Thats easy, ZINC plate.

The two old ones I have are zinc plate albeit rusty. You wouldn't paint zinc plate as the paint falls off and besides they run in the two "clamp" rollers in the door which grip the strap, so any paint would be quickly worn off.

Re: Restoring 330 Rear Numberplate Lights

Hi Jimmy, I didn't realise it was only a UK product. It's made by a car care company called "Carplan" I did a quick google search and you can get it off of ebay, here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WONDER-WHEELS-500ml-SUPER-ALLOY-WHEEL-CLEANER-/290937904407?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=ite...

Re: Restoring 330GT Hood hinges, springs, rear irons & brack

LOL, I'm long divorced! Tom, Good point. Yes I did check against the bumper, albeit my rear bumpers a little bent, the slotted holes did line up ok. I spent the whole day today working on the Bonnet (hood) hinges. If you left click on the first picture in this post you can use the zoom feature to ta...
