365GTC/4 bent rod questions

Hey Tom, Glad to hear that your 330 America is purring right along. Grill looks just gorgeous! And the Mustang is operational - nice. What about the Sunbeam? Might you just be in a spot where all cars are fully operational? (Ominous music here) I was wondering, given how it was so difficult to remov...

Did anybody see how engine blocks are made on The Science Channel's How it's Made? Very similar process. Although a robot (quickly) adds 17 sand castings to the main piece. Very quickly. Another distinction is they fill the mold from the bottom on this one saying that the aluminum would be compromis...

I've rebuilt a number of small block Fords. They're cake. Use quality parts (FelPro gaskets), etc. and you're still not gonna crack $2K provided you're not going nuts on aftermarket stuff (aluminum heads, etc.). I'd think a small block Ford would have to be drop dead simple compared to a Ferrari V12...

Any color

I have yet to see a well done Ferrari color detract from the lines. I prefer darker colors you don't see everyday. Darker green and brown especially. Maroon is also a very handsome color. Having had black cars, they do look nice, but are just plain stupid to keep looking very good. My car looks unac...

OT: Mobile tool boxes and organizers

Hey all, I've got a small issue I've been wrestling with for as long as I can remember - tool boxes. Not the OEM Ferrari peices, but everyday automotive tools. I mean how many different tools are out there? There's sockets, wrenches and other tools. But tool boxes are almost exclusively just big box...

Wow. So, I'm surfing the web and I dig real deep and come up with a company in Canada that generally caters to the glove/shoe/apparel market. http://www.urad.com They are one of the few smaller companies that actually supports their retailes. I found it locally in Redmond. I bought URAD and "Tenderl...

Mike, thanks for your very insightful post. I guess they'll have to come off. That would be a good time to get the seat heaters working right as well. Now I'll put you on the spot. What do you use on a routine or semi-routine basis to do what's possible from the outside as far as a product? Great lo...

Leather care (spray-on dyed)

Hi all, Just a few weeks for most of us to drive the nice cars in good weather. Leads me to thinking... What are your preferred methods for cleaning and conditioning leather? My experience is only with Griot's Garage Leather conditioner and cleaner and Leatherique. I have sprayed on (factory - non F...

Your grill and stainless hardware!

Hey Tom, Don't mean to kibbitz too much here, but I thought it was a big no-no to mate stainless next to aluminum. The thinking was that there is no "sacrificial" metal and the sacrificial metal would be the aluminum. And although aluminum doesn't rust, it can corrode. Thought zinc was the ideal fas...

So Tom, about your book... Any insider tips on what it will consist of? Coffee table book? Pictures? How many pages? Approximately when will it be available? Will it be a "vanity publication" (short run on demand published) or is a publishing house behind it? Either which way, I'm in for at least on...

How about a non-standard or modified screw? One would think that originality would take a back seat (I made a pun!) when the original design causes the car to consume itself.

Of course, they all sound great! The Ansa sounds more like the old Ferrari sounds from cars in the movies of the period. However, I loved your Stebros as the engine throttle was blipped. Deep growl. Very nice. With most good engines, it's all about the negatives. If there are no negatives, all will ...

Tom's new gauge bezels!

Can't wait to see the new ones all done up right! Seems the fixes that directly affect the tactile response of the car are the most fun.

I just finished doing another leather "rejuvination". Ahhhh...

John you're right. And unless you've added that to a car, there's little that can be done for a slow turner on start. I've got a car where I can infact get oil pressure when by just cranking it. But, the benefits of that are small. A pre lubricating system and they're always aftermarket on cars. htt...
