All batteries will decline in output if not charged. Rather than charge it, use a "BatteryMINDer". It send not only a low trickle charge to the battery, but it will break up low level sulfating (sulfate material from the grids falling off and settline to the bottom) with ultrasonic pulses. All this ...

Warm up technology is the same for all cars. The goal is to get the operating tempature up as quickly as possible while causing the least amount of stress on the engine as possible. Nearly opposite goals when you think about it. No engine no matter how well engineered is designed to rev high when co...

The state-of-the-art water hose clamps are those throw-away spring type clamps found on new cars. http://www.rotorclip.com is a OEM supplier. They call these CT clamps or "constant tension". I say 'throw-away', because most people do just that. One look at them and they say, "I can't torque down tha...

Resto-dilema... Original or Better. Vintage clamps are a perfect example. Wire is another. The stuff used in long ago had advanced much of course. I'm of two minds on this. I can see the value of a time capsule care, but I'd rather have something that didn't cut corners like the factory sometimes di...

I have a favorite ceramic coating shop in the Seattle area. They do parts by mail/UPS no prob. Performance Coatings Here is a couple of pictures ( before and after )of a recent cooling system component I had done by them. They said it offers a 50% increased resistance corrosion on aluminum. I took t...

Yup Tom, I've got to chime in as well. Your project has been amazing. It has inspired me on short term as well as long term projects. And project yet to be started! There are few good restoration documentation sites out there. I remember one where this guy restored a Citroen 2CV (does it as a busine...

I tend to agree with Smith. I do not view washers in terms of a locking mechanism, but rather a way to spread the load out. (protection of load surface). I'm a big fan of flanged head cap screws and flanged nuts. I use them when they're OEM. Sometimes they're there for clearance and alignment purpos...

Resto-documentation
Hi Tom, Your influence must be rubbin off on me. I've been documenting some of the work I'm doing on my car. However, I have one problem... I take few pictures of the assemblies in their original condition. I suspect I'm embarassed to show the "ghetto fixes" and other disasters I find. I love to sho...

I tend to like old Toyotas (80s and early 90's vintage). Especially the rear drive. I wouldn't let a 10 year old yota with 100K on the clock scare you away. Let it scare everyone else away. If you want the deal-of-the-day for rear wheel drive, get a 89-92 Cressida. Predessor to the GS300. Every bit ...

I would get a MKIV Supra. You've already got THE car, so you can do something completely different. Technologically, these cars are second to none. Perhaps some of the funky suspension stuff Porsche did with their AWD 911 turbos or the killer F1 style trannys in the new Marinellos aren't there. But ...

Re: i-yi-yi
the 400i can indeed be costly to maintain / repair (how does $500 for (1) USED Parking Lamp grab ya?) Thanks for that sage advice. When things get like that, I'm convinced that you can't overpay (within reason) for an excellent example. As for the 5-speed, I had read that the Auto is better but aft...

Ah a good review on driving position! One of the things that is usually a sore spot with most cars. Yes, I know that the 5 speeds are rare, but I tend to agree. Having a V12 without being the direct link between the flywheel and the wheels is something I'd rather not be involved with. Thanks, Udo. K...

Yes, I concur with all the sage comments and they are valid. It isn't a Toyota, so the need for a PPI on any car is a must. I'm no fool and although at some time I'm sure I'll see the insides of a F engine, doing so right off the bat isn't the best way to start your Ferrari relationship! Bosch-K is ...
