Re: Undercoating
Hey, John: Didn't we talk about this here a while back? If not, I've been pretty happy with the Wurth SKS. But be aware that they sell a gun specifically for applying it. It has a big canister on it, and you take the top off a plastic bottle of the stuff, drop it in the canister and screw on the top...

Anybody seen or used the repro stainless bumpers?
Hi all:
The center rear bumper section on the Cab's bumpers seems to be too thin for my chromer to attempt work on it.
Has anyone tried the reproduction stainless bumpers being produced in Vietnam apparently by a Brit? they're sold in the US by "Mr. Fiat".

Re: RIP Ted Rutlands & Wayne Obry
I hadn't been aware of Ted's illness and was shocked when I saw him in Monterey. Both were good guys who made a significant contribution to making it easier to keep our cars on the road. And both of them will be missed.

Re: Front Suspension
It looks as though the bracket that holds the bump stop for the full droop condition is the main culprit. Neither one appears to be bent. My guess is that when the apprentices at the factory welded them on, they made one lower than the other. I never made the connection to the drilled rotors before,...

Re: Front Suspension
Tried John's method for inserting the spring without success. The tapered fit of the top of the kingpin into the upper A-arm eye was just too tough to overcome and my fear of damaging something made me put down the copper hammer and led me back to the "traditional" way of doing it - from the bottom ...

Re: Brake Caliper Pistons
Hi John: I just put my caliper assemblies back together a couple of months ago, which included separating the parts you mention. My 1-ton arbor press probably isn't mounted in the best location (on a rolling bench). So I used my bench vise to press the piston out of the backer plate and black-oxided...

Re: Front Suspension
John: I can't tell for sure what your technique is from the picture. But if I'm following, it sounds like you're disassembling the kingpin just enough to let the upper eye come off the top of the kingpin and stay with the upper suspension arms. And then making the whole suspension "say ahhh" while y...

Re: Front Suspension
While I have nothing but respect for my friend Cornelis' experience, it's hard to see how the fit of the stamped spring keeper bracket is more critical than that of the arms on the inner pins, considering the precision of the machined relief on the pins and the variable dimension(s) of the the bronz...

Re: Front Suspension
Hi John: I used the Wurth Body Shutz product, which comes in fairly large bottles and is meant to be shot with their gun, which has a canister that the product bottle drops right into. It's water-based, making cleanup a simple matter. Full disclosure, though: * the car was a bare body and chassis - ...

Re: Front Suspension
Okay, so as of tonight, I know. You start with mating the arms to the inner pins first, selecting thrust washers that will allow you to insert the keeper bolts in the split end of the arms while eliminating end play (fore and aft movement) in the pin/ A-arm assembly. Then, select thrust washers for ...

Re: Front Suspension
I'm glad that at least I'm not the only one working through this process right now, and that I can hopefully benefit from this exchange. Last time I did it, lo these many years ago, I sized the bronze washers "by guess", and my friend Mr. Yang has so far resisted my pleas to properly document the pr...

Re: Oh My…..
I had a chance to look at both these cars in person during the preview period - a pretty good once-over on the blue one. Very nice car, and deserving of this record price. Not quite to the level of Scott Oshry's GTE by Zac Dugger, which is a really exceptional example, but this one is very nice. I w...

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks
I had 3-4 broken leaves on the Cab's springs and the local spring shop who does work on Jay Leno's cars, said the material to make a new set was unobtainable. In the end, I just had them make up a new set using thicker material but fewer leaves. They did their calculations based on the car's weight....

Anyone know Scott Kriens - 250 SII Cab at Monterey '14?
Hi all: There was a restored 250 Series II Cabriolet at Concorso last month, shown by a Scott and Joanie S kriens of Saratoga, CA. This car, 2109GT, is exactly two serial numbers from my 2105GT. I believe it to be owned by Scott Kriens (not sure why the extra letter on the windshield card), but I'm ...

Re: A big step forward for 4247 GT
Sorry - no help on the tire choice. But wanted to point out that that's no reflection in the rear axle picture Tom just posted. It's the unit from my SII Cab, #2105 GT, which happened to be going through the process at the same time as Tom's, at Zac's shop. There was unmistakable evidence of a casca...
