Re: 250 GTE Tire recommendations

Hi Steve,I say go with the more current tire as long as you get the right look. My feeling is that these cars need the period sidewall profile to look good/correct. Good luck,Mike I agree that paying $2000 for 4 'period correct tires' is a bit too much. I ran Pirelli P400 tires (if I remember corre...

Re: 250 GTE Tire recommendations

Just an update on purchasing Michelin 205/70-VR 15 tires: - The Coker folks have tires produced in Feb 2013 (already 20 months old) and nothing newer. They had a "take it or leave it" attitude, so I opted for the latter. - Collectors Auto Supply in Canada has the same story. And their price changed ...

Re: Drivetrain Whine

When the gearbox on my C/4 was rebuilt to correct the slow 2nd gear syncho problem, it came back with a whine very similar to what you describe. The shop replaced some, but not all, of the bearings. While the 2nd gear syncho issue went away, the box was never the same in terms of noise. In neutral, ...

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks

Greetings… I wouldn't use any measurement to the body, especially the wheel arches. As we have seen before, they can be all over the park. I would measure from the ground (generally a reliable reference) up to a suspension bolt on the chassis like the front trailing arm bolt. If they are off side t...

Tom
Well something's not right. I get 28" in the front..... a full 1-1/2" higher than the back. Tires are XWX Michelins and Borrani rims are 3690's. Is the front adjustable in terms of height?

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks

Thanks, Tom. Just what I was thinking. I have been unable to source new springs and am thinking of adding one extra spring when the assembly comes off for a rebuild. Any thoughts? Measuring from ground level through the center of the spinner to the bottom of the fender arch is exactly 26-1/2" on bot...

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks

My car does not feel stable at anything over 60 MPH. It over steers, which I believe to be common, but it just doesn't feel right. I have 16 year old tires (new ones on the way) which could contribute but I don't think the tires are the issue. It just shifts around while driving, particularly on a c...

Re: Update: fuel delivery problem, 250 GTE

Got (2) Facet electric fuel pumps installed this weekend. Not a job for the faint of heart - there's plenty of space to put one pump in but very little space to put in two. Biggest challenge is clearing the fuel filter with the 2nd pomp and connecting all the fuel lines adjacent to both pumps. Fabri...

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks

Thanks for the pictures, Treue. I had the car on the lift this weekend and made a close inspection of the leaf springs. While I could not see any broken springs, my bushings were in really bad shape. This car has always been "twitchy" at speed, and with the entire front suspension rebuilt the culpri...

Re: Update: fuel delivery problem, 250 GTE

Zanny, Both the mechanical and electric pumps have one-way valves that keep fuel from draining back( to the tank). They also keep fuel from just circulating in a circle between the mechanical and electic pumps and not filling the carbs. Usually when our cars have a fuel delivery problem, one of the...

Re: Update: fuel delivery problem, 250 GTE

Zanny after reading the beginning of this thread . it will be clear the fispa mech pump is the "bottle neck" I suspect a mistake inside the pump( i.e turned or wrong placed valve) you can simply connect the pressure regulator direct to the fuel line with elect. pump doing the work alone. and he run...

Re: Update: fuel delivery problem, 250 GTE

Hi Mike, It would be a shame to come this close and give up! Did you try running the car off the electric pump, plugging up the front of the fuel rail and seeing what kind of flow was coming from the front line off the regulator? With the car running off the electric pump, you can rev the engine,an...

Re: Update: fuel delivery problem, 250 GTE

Before you add another pump, have you measured the fuel pressure just before the carbs? Should be 4-5 PSI, I believe. If you have good pressure, than the problem must be further downstream, either in the fuel rail, or carbs, right? s I don't think it's the fuel rail or carbs, since the motor runs f...

Update: fuel delivery problem, 250 GTE

Spent the weekend trying to sort out the fuel starvation problem on my 1962 GTE. As you may have read in a previous post, the car would run out of fuel and die at freeway speeds. Around the block it worked just fine. 1. The FISPA electric fuel pump was non-op when I bought the car. I removed and dis...

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks

Zanny, And now the bad news that may await. Out of the ten leaves in the two rear springs of 9129, FIVE were broken. My shop, somehow, got replacements from Tom S. I am dreading those axle-busting chuck holes. BTW 9129 is done, running and driving. (Yippee) Film at 11 Tom Tom Were they broken dead ...
