Re: Re:
Hi William, Just so you know, my painted orange tips lasted about 1000 miles before they were lost under the soot of the exhaust! Tom Tom, if you made it 1000 miles before the exhaust had soot covering the tips, your carburetors are too lean! s HaHaHa. On my C/4, the orange disappeared in about 500...

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks
Thanks to all for the great information. I finally took the plunge and bought a 4-post lift. Today the car goes on the lift so I can rebuild the mechanical fuel pump, fix the non-operating electrical fuel pomp, and change the rear fuel filter. As some of you know, I've had some fuel delivery problem...

Re: 250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks
Greetings… If you remove the rear springs (not for the faint of heart, I've done it and it scared me) hyou should be able to find a blacksmith shop who can re-arch them. Find the shop first and see what information they need. Some where on the site should be a picture of the fairly substantial jig ...

250GTE Rear Springs and Shocks
Having done a lengthy search on this website, I need some basic advice on the 250 GTE rear suspension. #3177 sags a bit, having 26-1/2" distance between ground level and the top of the fender arch measured through the center of the wheel. Using a jack on the bumper, my eye tells me that this figure ...

Re: Questions: Heater valve, steering box fluid, vapor lock?
HI Mike, The new yellow fuel lines seem to be working fine with modern fuels. There was a yellow line that was used in the 80s that seems to be dissolving from the inside out. You can spot this bad line by the brown tar residue oozing out from the seams of the casing. This line also has more of a m...

Re: Questions: Heater valve, steering box fluid, vapor lock?
In response to #3: I had the same problem and it turned out to be the old yellow fuel lines were swelling internally restricting gas flow under the heat. Ran fine when cold and lost power when hot. Replaced the lines and all is perfect. As dyke mentioned what happens when the aux pump is on?I was a...

Re: Questions: Heater valve, steering box fluid, vapor lock?
Well guys, it isn't vapor lock. Went to see Bill Preston today (of GTE Registry fame), and on the way back the car just died. No fuel to the carbs. Electric pump doesn't work (again) and I suspect the mechanical pump has problems. Tried to restart - no luck. Squirted a little fuel down the carb thro...

Re: Questions: Heater valve, steering box fluid, vapor lock?
Mike, Nice to see you made a quick turnaround from the C4. Cheers, Sam Thanks, Sam. I had that car 12 years and thought I would never sell it. A shop in California had the car on and off for 5-1/2 years. They rebuilt the engine 3 times, the gearbox twice, and made such a mess of things that the car...

Re: Questions: Heater valve, steering box fluid, vapor lock?
Thanks Steve. Heater valve issue solved.... I am embarrassed to admit that the cable was not fully closing the valve. Diaphragm was just fine. Disassembled and cleaned everything, bench tested, then upon installation noted that the operating cable wasn't pulling the lever fully closed. Now if I coul...

Re: Questions: Heater valve, steering box fluid, vapor lock?
Thanks DWR. I doubt both coils would fail at the same time, although stranger things have happened with these cars. I did remove the gas cap to check for vacuum lock, but that was OK. My electric fuel pump just "thunks" when turned on. When I got home, I removed one of the banjo fittings to check th...

Questions: Heater valve, steering box fluid, vapor lock?
I am new to the Ferrari 250 GTE, but not new to owning vintage Ferraris. Following a search of this website, I have a few questions and appreciate your response. 1. Where can I source a rebuild kit for my heater valve? Are they worth rebuilding, or is a manual valve a better choice? My lever and cab...

Re: Daytona spark plugs
Ran BP6ES plugs in my C/4 after the engine was rebuilt with 10.5: CR and reground cams. Used individual air cleaners per carb, crane ignition. Car was euro-spec. Ran just fine with 120 main jets.

250 GTE Tire recommendations
Just took delivery of SN 3177. After a thorough inspection in my shop, I note the tires (Michelin XWX 205/70 VR15) were made in 1998. They look just fine, however they need replacement. I understand the new Michelin XWX tires are pricey, however I am more interested in ride quality than price per ti...

Thanks for the reply, DWR.
What's the elevation at the Colorado grand event?
More important, do I risk an overly lean condition if I drive the car to Phoenix (which is at sea level)?
