Re: Daytona Carb problems
Steve: I know you have checked for vacuum leaks, but: 1. Pull the carbs, and level the bases on a surface plate. You will be amazed how "bowed" they will be. 2. It is time to set up the carbs. Do not forget to follow my write ups in setting the Bypass Screws when balancing the carbs. 3. Before you s...

Re: Annual maintenance
OK John, you have pushed me into trying to do something productive! The factory shop manuals for 275 and 330 state the "axial clearance of rocker arm in the support" shall be 0.02-0.05mm with a wear limit of 0.15mm. I think this is the dimension you are looking for.

Re: Annual maintenance
Whow John, you are way above my job classification! I have no idea on a spec for lateral rocker movement on the shaft. I can tell you that I am much more concerned about things being too tight than I am being too loose. As for spark plugs, they do not have to be as tight as some specs show. I use 16...

Re: Annual maintenance
Colin: Add two items to your list and you have it covered: 1. Retorque Cylinder Head Studs: I do not unscrew them, I just put a torque wrench on them and give them a pull up to the spec. 2. After removing the camshaft rocker stands (one at a time) to check the rollers and screws, retorque the rocker...

Re: Annual maintenance
OK John, I will add my comments. Your instructions on chain tensioner adjustment are correct. However, I would add a couple of comments. Over the years, I have found it very common to encounter tensioners that were frozen in their housings. This is primarily due to the fact that the housing is alumi...

Re: Daytona Carb problems
Tom: I do not think there are any rubber diaphragms in a Bendix pump. I have never seen one of them come apart like Steve is describing, but it could be possible. As to fuel line, if he doesn't want the expense and complication of the original leather wrapped line, he should at least buy "fuel injec...

Re: Daytona Carb problems
Steve: What is the fuel pressure? If the original Bendix pumps have been replaced with higher pressure versions, you will have the condition you describe. You have decribed the correct float settings for the U.S. Version 40 DCN 21A. I use the European settings on my car, which is 48mm height and 56....

Re: making spark plug wires...
We have installed MSD boxes on at least 100 different vehicles over the last 25 years. EVERY car had solid core wires (usually Packard 440). We have had zero problems, so apparently if you make the same mistake enough times it is no longer a mistake.

Re: making spark plug wires...
Steve: Insert the wire into the cap so the conductor is visible thru the screw hole. That way you know the screw is making contact with the conductor.

Re: Hibernation Start Ups
Ferrari chokes of the 250/275/330 era are actually early versions of anti-theft devices. If you use them the engine will almost never start!!!!

Re: Trim Pieces below the rockers
Tom: I went back and reviewed photos of new cars and will revise my description to a "soft sheen" finish. It was defintely shiny enough to reflect the flash bulbs of cameras. These photos were of PF Coupes, 250 GTE's and 330 GT's. Now when you get to the 275 and 330 GTC/S, I will agree that the trim...

Re: Trim Pieces below the rockers
Tom: I do not pretend to be a Pininfarina body expert, however the original ones I have seen over the years were surprisingly glossy. They were at least as well polished as the exterior paint on the cars.

Re: 330 GT borrani wheel dilemma
See if Tom S. has any rebuildable 3812's. You might be able to trade your 3801's in partial payment and you have to rebuild a set of wheels anyway. Might as well rebuild the correct wheels.

Re: 330 GT borrani wheel dilemma
9119 is far enough into the serial number range that the chances it would have been factory equipped with RW3801 wheels are extremely small. By this time in 1966, RW3801's had not been used for over a year on new cars. I believe it is very safe to say that the Data Sheets are correct in that the car...
