It is largely a matter of opinion, but I wouldn't say a traditional gearbox to be an overdrive just if the final ratio was above 1:1. I think it is logical to save the term "overdrive" for drivetrains with a separate overdrive unit. On the other hand gearbox ratios are designed in relation to rear e...

I recently read a study which claims that there is no need to be hysterically afraid of asbestos in short term contacts. Standard procedures have been designed for working conditions were people may be exposed to asbestos 8 hours a day for many years. Note also that asbestos does not wet very well. ...

I've been holding my breath for two years or so waiting someone would ask a numbers question! GT/E body numbering system in a nut shell: First numbers 39701-40000 were used between chassis numbers 1895GT-3079GT. Running out of numbers, PF used numbers 34002 and 34003 for 3081GT and 3083GT thus finis...

Argento Auteuil
To correct my earlier statement: correct color code for Argento Auteuil is 106-E-1, not 106-E16 as I claimed earlier in this thread.

AFAIK verde abete savid 20258 may only have been used on two 250GTs in 1960 (1829GT & 2381GT) so finding pictures may be difficult. Meanwhile, Jonathan, you are welcome to pick photos og Argento Autuil 106.E.16 (correct color code!) as repainted by factory in 1967 at: http://www.hut.fi/~kpietila/319...

4003GT
I think this silver/black car was parted out in USA in 1980's. Engine and drivetrain was then installed in 250 GT/E 4333GT. 4003GT then turns up in UK as a GTO-replica. Unclear which parts were used (if any, besides papers). Do not know which engine is in. Offered for sale by Paul Baber between 01/9...

Case closed...?
I think I was able to solve this problem: After receiving some digital photos over the engine stampings, I noticed that 226/1016E is actually 226/10163 with the last digit UPSIDE DOWN. I think this is the 330-engine that was once installed in 275GTB/4 #10163. Someone - apparently trying to restamp -...

I personally use fuel additive on all older cars. Possible damage depends on what kind of fuel is used, what type of engine is in question and how do you use it. Correct oil filters have a valve plate inside, which keeps the oil in filter when it engine is turned off. Series 1-2 cars have older type...

More on engine numbers...
As I said earlier only 330 America engines seem to appear in same numbering sequence as 250-engines (128E). So if you have a 4-litre engine with number #1816/62E, it is without a doubt a 330 America engine. Later 330 engines have a numbering sequence of their own staring from #2 and running in even ...
