Re: The Quail

I guess the good news is that now there's so many events on Friday that spare Quail tickets my pop up at only $900, instead of the expected $1200 resale price. I'd personally love to see what Monterey Bay Concours was planning on putting together. I hope that someone takes pictures. Just to recap, y...

Re: 330 GT blower motor housings

Not sure if they are exactly the same, but the fan motors are swappable with those on an Austin Healey 100. http://www.mossmotors.com sells new fan motors, but I've never ordered casings from them, so I couldn't tell you what they look like, or if they'd even work.

Re: 330 GTS Misbehaving Voltage Regulator?

Ha! ;^)

Well, looks like I'm stuck doing the work. I believe this is the last remaining sub-system that I have not been required to overhaul, minus the engine itself. So I guess all that remains now is to throw a rod.

Re: 330 GTS Misbehaving Voltage Regulator?

Ugh, that sounds like I have to do work. I was hoping for a one-line answer to my problems. I guess i'll need to do it right, and take some measurements.

More later.

330 GTS Misbehaving Voltage Regulator?

I need to figure out why my battery is being overcharged. Things are normal at idle, but when I'm moving, the battery appears to be getting far too much juice from the charging system. I haven't confirmed this using any sort of scientific equipment, but have noticed that the (new) battery is spittin...

Re: Nominate topics for the Vintage Ferrari Archive

Here's a link to the VLG-specific hooks I created. Pretty simple to use, and really makes drilling down into the data easy.

Re: Nominate topics for the Vintage Ferrari Archive

Put that way, it sounds like it might not be a bad idea to think in terms of a wiki. (which is doable) We set a Wiki up for the Vintage Lamborghini group a few years ago. http://vlg-archives.com/wiki/index.php?title=VLG_Wiki Works pretty well. We modeled the skeleton after a typical shop manual. Yo...

Re: Muffler Heat Shields

Glad you are using your car so frequently. I might suggest that with your level of use, you may consider putting your tool roll on a shelf and getting yourself a small toolbox with modern tools to place in the car. Don't be bashful about throwing whatever you think you'll need in there - whatever yo...

Re: Correct Finish - Sway bar and brackets etc

Just as a data point, I use the following procedure to clean parts prior to sending them for plating. 1. Clean parts in an ultrasonic cleaner using a soap that removes rust and any existing plating. You can buy an ultrasonic cleaner for under $100. Bigger ones cost $400-$500. I use the biodegradable...

Re: Taking Care of Teak

For a cheap and effective solution, I've used Watco Danish Oil Finish, Natural color, with good results. It will not restore your dash to a gloss finish, but it will make it look "wetter", and will help protect the wood from drying out. Apply with rag and wipe off. Use a foam applicator around the d...

Re: Brake Booster Rebuild

i just had my brake master and dunlop power booster rebuilt by Power Brake Exchange in San Jose, CA. They powder coated it a nice shade of black, but I couldnt tell you the actual formula. They see so many Dunlop boosters in a week that I assumed they knew what to paint it, and I'd guess that the co...

Re: Judging 3553 "and others"

Since you are soliciting, here's an opinion: I remain of the opinion that a road car's primary function is transport, and a race car's primary function is to win races. I personally feel the current concours system is fundamentally flawed, as it in no meaningful way measures your car's ability to pe...

Re: Nylon Lock Nuts - front end on a 330

Based on my own observations and experience, re-plated nuts are the better option as far as costs and looks go, and they seem to work fine. It's true that the process does bleach out the nylon, but if it bothers you that they are not yellow then you can re-stain them. I've found that the white nylon...
