It'll be a lot cheaper to keep it a Chev-rrari hot rod!

How do people react to the 550, compared to the 330? It's kinda nice not being particularly noticed in my noisy old "Fiat" (330GTS). Do you get treated more like a Camaro owner, or Porsche?

I once put "Rotten Robbie" gas in my 330, which had otherwise enjoyed BP or Chevron. One yellow fuel line started dripping within a week. I replaced the fuel line and will now stick to Chevron, just in case. Otherwise no problems with 5 years of bay area gas, using yellow fuel lines.

I think the choke wire is even funnier than the heater control... having to push the wire unsupported through 2 feet of open space to actuate plates on 3 carbs... like the Indian fakir's rope trick.

If you peel the stickers off af an AC-Delco "professional" series battery, it looks like a plain black box with terminals - not a bad compromise for having a trustworthy battery. But any standard automotive battery will be severely compromised by going flat even once. It's best to use automatic batt...

Hi Doc,

Extending the cord to maybe twice its length should be OK (from an electrical engineering perspective). But try to use wire constructed in the same manner as the original (maybe it's a twisted pair inside of a foil shield, maybe it's a coaxial cable).

Simple Green works well at removing oil films from wrinkle paint or other surfaces, don't leave it on too long before rinsing off. You can also even out your wrinkle paint with black vinyl top dressing, which may just be high-temperature shoe polish. Believe it or not, you can get a nice fresh, rich...

The consensus I've gathered is "white" or clear cad. Zinc plating came later, after cad's toxicity obsoleted it from general use.

Giovanni,

Thanks, I'll try to exchange my swaged-pin crank for one with a pressed-in pin.

Giovanni,

Does your crank have an actual separate pin mounted into the shaft? A window crank I got from a well-known Ferrari salvage guy was swaged to create small ears that stick out to engage the window mechanism, rather than having a crosswise pin.

Maybe I need to get a different crank?

Pasadena Jim-

Those Bosch resistor connectors work great, but will cost you 1/2 point at the concours. If this is a concern, use the resistor version of the plug and metal core AC Delco "Packard 440" wire instead.

Thoroughly cleaning four wire wheels is a simple 8-hour procedure: take them off the car and polish in and around the spokes until your fingers are buggered. Then put 'em back on.
