Re: Flooded Torque Tube

Tom, you're right on the money for part number versus the actual size. The part numbers do not always correspond so be careful. The thickness of the seal can make a difference, my suggestion is to measure them once you have them out. If you have a problem finding them contact me and I'll find them f...

Re: Brakes! We don't need no stinkin brakes

Here's my two cents on silicone brake fluid. Yes it does not absorb moisture like ester based fluids, it is not as caustic on vehicle paint as "regular"brake fluid. However, silicone brake fluid if induced into a braking system that has had "regular" brake fluid in it, tends to create a chemical rea...

Re: Flooded Torque Tube

Tom, I did rebuild two QM tranny's recently, here's a couple of things to keep in mind. Mark the output shhaft and the coupler to make sure they line up the same way you pull them off on both ends, the trans and the diff. Balancing and phase of the shaft can be a real problem if they go back in a di...

Re: 365 2+2 #12685 in DC

I've had the privilege to maintain and repair some great 365 GT 2+2s at my shop, Mark Dempsey's, Brian Phillip's, Lash's QM is is every bit as nice and certainly one of the best on the market. Strong mechcanically, great paint and interior, a tremendous buy!

Re: Trebelhorn Lusso

My understanding is the car was modified by Tom Meade back in the day, so it probably came across the pond that way. I think I'm correct in saying it has been in this area most of it's life.

Re: Oil Recommendations

Ed, just to add to Michael's suggestion, look for Penrite Steering box lube, it's a 1200w fluid that doesn't leak. Regular gear oil in a manual steering box will eventually leak out. The Penrite is obviously very thick but it's made specifically for steering gearboxes. Go to www.restorationstuff.com...

Re: Dual oil fillers

To add to Michael's description, if you look at vintage Ferrari motors the architecture is based on racing engines. Enzo being an engine man always wanted his engines to be robust, which they are. My understanding is, there is one filter which is a main filter, usually mounted on top of or near the ...

Re: Daytona rear wheel hub/axle problem

Timo, I have to ask a really stupid question so bear with me. Did you notice any excessive wear on the wheel center hub splines or the splines on the hub from the axle? Depending on how this car was maintained and driven in the past, it's possible no one ever serviced the wheel hubs, cleaned them an...

Re: rebuild the mechanical fuel pump

John, you're correct, mount the pump in vise, use soft jaws if you have them. Push on the pump lever unti it stops, using a depth micrometer or a dial caliper with a depth gauge, measure the distance from the edge of the pump housing to the lever. The spring in the pump has a fair amount of tension....

Re: rebuild the mechanical fuel pump

JR, is there a phenolic block between the pump and the engine block? There should be, and typically the push rod for the pump doesn't always match the full stroke of the pump lever. You have to measure the push rod stroke with the phenolic block and gaskets in place and then measure how much stroke ...
