I second the comment about unreliable clocks. Out of 5 Ferraris I own, only my 360 Spyder has a functional clock. They should make it a concours requirement to have "the ubiquitous non-functional clock". Minus 5 if your clock is working, minus 10 if it's telling the correct time.

Last year's Concorso was a nightmare to get to (they claim they've sorted it this year), but the event itself was fun. Amongst the rows of newer cars were quite a few 60's gems, I thought - more than I've seen in recent memory. But I did hear that last year's Quail lodge event was quite good, with e...

Well, I should probably clarify that "decent" to me means good mechanicals, 10 foot paint job, and useable interior - something that looks and sounds great while cruising down the highway, but may have noticable, perhaps glaring faults when sitting next to a correct example. I thought the one Ferrar...

I drove up to Clear Lake to look at the car. In a nutshell, the car needs everything except a new exhaust. On the plus side, surprisingly few parts are missing at first glance, given the overall condition of the car. (apart from the usual tools and books omission). Paint thickness gauge revealed a f...

I second Dayton Wire Wheels work. I had them redo 4 rusty wheels, and they all came back in brilliant condition, with stainless steel spokes, borrani stickers, and a perfect polish. Total cost: about $1600.

It does take about 4 months, so throw on the alloy rims if you got 'em.

Thanks you guys for the tips. It looks like I can repair the turn signal and washer stalk in the manner suggested, but the headlight stalk is beyond repair. I'd guess that a piece from a 246 Dino or 365 Daytona will work, but I'm not sure about the 330 GT 2+2- I'll have to make a run to the local sh...

Column mounted indicator switch repair

Has anyone successfully repaired the hard black plastic which holds the aluminum turn signal/light stalks to the white plastic column mount? Mine are cracking, and I'd like to take a stab at fixing them prior to hunting down a replacement (which may be in just as bad shape!). I've been told that glu...

Engine temp readings

In looking through my driving notes, I see that my 250 GTL (tipo 168) idles in heavy traffic with water temp @ 165F (75C) and oil temp @ 220F (105C). While driving, water temp stays constant @ 165F, and oil temp drops to 190F (87C). These readings seem to be at slight odds with what others are posti...

Corrrect paint thickness - vintage?

I just got my new Elcometer Coating Thickness Gauge, and I've spent the afternoon measuring away on my cars to determine which cars are honest, and which I've been snookered on. FYI, this Elcometer is basically a probe that measures the distance between the top layer of paint and the underlying meta...

One thing you may want to consider is just timeserting the cam cover studs. The threads in your head may be perfectly good now, but the next guy who does a valve adjustment may overtighten the cam cover nuts, and thus strip the stud threads on the aluminum head. It's easy to fall into this trap, esp...

I peered under the hood of this vehicle as they were prepping it for auction at RM in August (I think it was the same one - it showed up 1/2 hour before it's scheduled slot, and was a no-sale) - there were patterns of dried antifreeze all over the engine compartment which suggested the car had overh...

P.S.

The fine folks at MWS have told me that the Answer to my question is 8TPI for most Ferrari Knock Off caps. They appear to know their stuff, so I'm going to order a set of 4 Borrani caps from them.

Knock off center caps for older Ferraris

I'm looking to replace my Borranis on my 365 GT 2+2 with the "10 Hole" wheels, but I'm having a little trouble determing where to find the center caps. After much searching, I came across a company in England (MWS - http://www.mwsint.com/) which sells replica 3-eared Center Caps for $50 each, which ...

Talking of bushings . . .

I'm considering redoing my 365 GT 2+2 front suspension, and I'm just starting to do the search for suspension bushings. I've got all the original part numbers, but I've not located a good source for this type of hardware. Any suggestions? Inexpensive faux parts are totally acceptable, since this car...
