Re: 250 GTE Tire recommendations
I researched the tire situation last year. There are modern tires that will work and look right. I don't have my notes handy, but I recall that a 225 or 235/65 has correct dimensions as to sidewall height and diameter. The hook is speed ratings. Most are T or S. There are a few H (130mph) rated tire...

Re: Starter Brush
www.therobson.com/product/182-30205/ they're in NJ, have the Iskra in stock for $295. As an aside, back in my Alfa days I had a little side gig going converting 2 pole Bosch starters to 4 pole. Only requires switching out the brush plate and making the appropriate connections. Starter turns twice as...

Re: 250 GTE Tire recommendations
Which is why I supplied a link so that you could look at them for yourself. SPs were original fitment on some late 250s, Lusso #5931 I know for a fact as I was involved with that car for many years. Our GTE came with Pirelli Cinturatos. The Blockley website is very informative. Perhaps self educatio...

they make a very nice Dunlop SP knockoff in 185-15 and 205/70-15 among others. Prices seem very reasonable.

Re: Frontmask recreation 250 GTE
Would you be so kind as to tell me the name of the color on your car? It looks almost exactly like the traces of original paint on #2811, which I am starting to restore.
Your car looks super.
Thanks.

Re: Brake Lubricant
I first learned of silicone grease when I worked for a BMW dealer several lifetimes ago. The factory ATE brake lubricant is silicone grease. The DC-4 is the same stuff. The trick is not to use much; just a little dab wiped on the seals is sufficient. I've rebuilt hundreds of hydraulic components, ne...

I've always used Dow Corning DC-4. Available at Aircraft Spruce, among others.

Re: Oil Recommendations
Castrol used to make a GL-4 90 wt that was the factory fill and spec for early BMW 2002s that had Porsche type syncromesh. GL-5 would make them grind bigtime. As mentioned, the GL-4 has none of the Hypoid additives that cause the oil to cling to the internal surfaces and gears in operation. I"m not ...
