Re: color of extractor vents

Plus one on the chrome. I'm not into bling, but I think it looks quite good with the black. I'm not sure it would work as well with lighter colors.

Quail Lodge closing

I just saw an article in the L.A. Times about hotel foreclosures. It said the owners are going to close The Quail on Nov.16.....

Re: carburator nuts

Your nearest Toyota is chock full of M8x1.25 nuts that are 12mm. Most other Japan origin cars as well. Some of the misspent days of my youth were spent working on and racing sohc BMWs, which are quite similar in valve train configuration to the sohc Ferraris. Some of the reground cams we were using ...

Re: Looking for GTE window crank(s).

I'm fairly certain the inside and outside door handles came from a contemporary Alfa Giuletta. Give some of the Alfa parts guys a try.

Re: Pininfarina Flags

#2811 has white flags, and is original. They looked about the same as your example. A little Brasso and a soft cloth later, they look new.

ethanol is crap. Only 60% of the BTU content of gasoline, 1.5 BTU of energy (fossil fuel) in to produce 1 BTU of energy out. Another stupid political boondoggle made possible by a 51 cent/gal subsidy by the criminals in DC against a 54 cent/gal tariff on imports from Brazil.

Tires

I recall a thread recently about tires. I just ran across some info about Vredesteins that looks to be pertinent for us. They are making a 185 HR 15 that is correct for the stock wheels on the GTE. Also a 205/70 VR15. I don't know about you guys, but $175 for a V rated tire that bears a passing semb...

it is very important to use distributor cam lube when installing new points; I have seen points close up in less than 500 miles if installed dry. Carefully inspect the surface on the distributor cam itself; if it is worn and rough, it will quickly grind off the rubbing block. I also use it on the pi...

Its getting difficult to get real cad plating done anymore; cadmium is very toxic, and costs more per ounce than gold. My old plater used zinc for most everything. The natural zinc is almost identical to clear cad, and I'm told it is more durable. It can be passivated to give the familiar yellow fin...

The Wright 3350 was the first aircraft engine to make 1 horsepower per pound of weight. The B-29 was the first aircraft powered by the 3350; contrary to the museum display, they did not have turbos. The 749 Connies were powered with a development of the B-29 engine. The 1049 Connies and DC-7C used t...

when was the last time the oil was changed?

if the car is not driven much, a fair amount of gas ends up in the oil from cold starts, and will cause high HC readings. Also be sure the engine is up to operating temp before testing; at least a 30 minute run at speed.

I had a shop for many years, and things were simple: Bring me a deposit check for the work I say it needs, or bring a tow truck. If you ever turn a wrench on anything, all previous work will reflect on you, no matter if you did it or not. As I tell my current aircraft clients, "if you want to save m...
