Re: Front Alignment

Kerry: You have a sound idea, however I would be very careful using the bodywork for measurements. The more accurate approach is to measure off of the chassis, as this is what the wheels are attached to. Ferrari bodywork can be subject to both factory variances and crash repairs.

Re: Front Alignment

John: Point 4. We use an alignment machine that finds the centerline of the vehicle and then tells you when the wheels are straight ahead. You can do it with "string" or by other methods, but the computer alignment equipment is so good today you should use it. Point 6. Yes, use the center link (tie ...

Re: Front Alignment

John: The only adjustable alignment component on the "kingpin" cars is Toe. Aim for about 1/16" total Toe IN. The only way to adjust caster and camber is by bending the frame with a Porta Power. It can be done, but it is a big job. Most people do not know how to set toe corectly on a Ferrari: 1. Ver...

Re: More Weber Weirdness

Steve: You could have a ball stuck in the pump delivery valve. That would cause both a weak pump stream and would facilitate engine vacuum pulling fuel through the pump jet. I have seen numerous cases of stuck carb check valve balls due to the junk fuel we have today.

Re: More Weber Weirdness

Steve: Are you saying the excess fuel is coming out of the Pump Jet? If so, place your finger on the drivers side throttle shaft of the carb when this is happening, and see if the dribble stops when you apply pressure to the shaft. Also, are you sure you have the diaphragm spring in the correct loca...

Re: Oil Recommendations

Whenever we do a COMPLETE oil change on a car that uses a clutch type limited-slip, we always add a tube of limited-slip additive. The GL-5 oils that can be used in limited-slip axles are OK for "top up" but generally do not have adequate additives for a complete change.

Re: 330 GTC Battery?

I forget whether it is a Group 24 or 27, but the posts are positioned closest to the firewall and the positive post is toward the fender. It is illustated on page 89 of the Owners Manual. To get the correct orientation, you may need a 24F or 27F. This stands for "Ford", and reverses the posts compar...

Re: bleeding brakes

Bleed Screw: What model Ferrari is the car? Gravity Bleeding: Open the reservoir cap, attach a clear plastic line to a bleed screw, route the line to a container ( I like to use white plastic "butter tubs" as you can easily see the fluid change color as the new fluid comes thru the system), open the...

Gray is NOT correct. All the various air ducts are black fabric covered.

Re: New slave cylinder failure

Jumprun: I think that .3mm between the pushrod and the master piston will translate to about 1/8-1/4" at the pedal.

Re: New slave cylinder failure

Steve: You are correct, the pedal return spring is strong enough to support a drawbridge!! It is a horrible job to replace without breaking fingers. In the past, I have encountered broken pedal return springs that I just ignored (not proud it it) and the clutch effort did not seem effected. By the w...

Re: New slave cylinder failure

Steve: In continuing our clutch discussion, you want to adjust the free play at the master (up under the dash) to about 1/8- 1/4 " at the pedal. You do not need more as all additional play does is reduce the overall clutch disengagement. As long as you have some free play at the master, you are fine...

Re: Cross Reference for Clutch Master and Slave

John: What you are doing is great. Your saving grace is that you are changing the fluid often. The danger in pumping the pedal to bleed brakes is related to cars that have not had frequent fluid changes. Over time, the bore of the master cylinder will develop rings of rust or corrosion due to old fl...

Re: Cross Reference for Clutch Master and Slave

250GT: I do not try to use the reservoir filler adapter for the MV 6835. I only use the vacuum bleeder part of the unit on Ferraris. I refill the reservoirs by hand as the unit is bleeding. With this method, the unit works perfectly on all the early cars. I just did a fluid change on a 500 TRC last ...
