Hi Warren, The cast iron blocks were used. The brazed sheet metal blocks were a clever idea but they were subject to leaking. I saw a Crosley engine at Pompeo's with the top shaved off and a twin cam head applied. Can't recall the drive configuration (can't believe it was a tower gear drive). I thin...

Hi Warren, Crosley it is!. Starting life at as a 750cc engine with 26hp it quickly doubled hp and ultimately reached up to 65hp. Its overhead cam no head design (leading to incredible compression rations) quickly caught the eye of Italian companies, the best know of which was Bandini and Nardi. Rudy...

I saw a Dussy engine disassembled some years ago. Very interesting crankshaft. The counterweights were actually hollow and filled with mercury. They used a bevel gear set up to drive the camshafts. Very difficult but uncompromising design. Getting the backlash right was interesing. Lagonda solved it...

For all the wonderful engineering the Mexico has it lacks, to my eye, a prime ingredient: timeless coachwork. That probably has effected it's value and desirability more than most things. That's one thing that cannot be fixed.

Tom, I can attest that a GTC is a fine project. One just needs the time and skill to do the necessary work and get it sorted. The cost of doing this work is probably not much different that a 2+2 or say a SWB. Only the initial buy-in is different. Restoration cost can be estimated before the purchas...

Never a problem with Haggerty, but never a claim, so far. Rates seem competitive.

The thing about Haggerty that I find uniquely appealing is the fact they allow me to remove my collision coverage when the car is in Winter storage. That is a big cost savings.

You Tube has a whole SWB and GTO series. Check this out. Not as much tuning detail and we might like, but the subject and a run down the road makes up for it.

If Francois brings a SWB, we know it will have a pedigree. My Shorty came by way of Jackson, Miss... But I did count 12 cylinders and 4 wheels. Italian automobile genetics being what they are who knows what the results of a SWB blending could be? Maybe a litter of ASA’s with air outlets on their fen...

Assuming I'm not in Asia, there may be a second SWB at the party.

I wonder if we could breed them?

voodoo?

Mark, No voodoo. Yale’s been spending too much time in Brazil. As I recall, when I had the chance to drive Yale's car, it was obviously "holding back". I offered to quickly check it out. The points were pretty black, inside of the caps scary and the distributor timing was advanced on the passenger s...

Keith, I think Tom had a good clue. The tank fuel pick-up ends with a fine metal strainer which sits at the bottom of the gas tank. It may be clogged with debris and varnish. Not certain your particular model, but it's probably reachable through the drivers side rear wheel well. Undoing the banjo fa...

Hi Tom, Winter projects. I plan to pull the engine on the 330 GTC and give it a check-up and detailing. I rebuilt it in 85 so it's due for a refreshing. No problems except an oil leak through the pan. I recall cleaning the paint from the inside of the pan and not replacing it. Now casting porocity e...

Peter, I repaired a 250 swb tank on the car using POR 15 paste. Did this after removing the tank (first the axle/spring assembly) and having a profes. shop do the work. Still had a leak in the seam. Just drain the tank, mark where repair is needed and apply in thin coats. Worked like a charm for me....

distributor cap & rotor

Gents: I think the way to possibly accomplish this is as follows: a) pull a silicone tool from the existing cap or b) 3-D CAD the cap and do an SLA as a pattern (factoring in shrinkage) Then: 1) Machine metal parts and fabricate 2) Make a silicone tool and cast in place the metal parts using an epox...
