Re: Ignition system
Jim: I think the gentleman is talking about the "tootsie roll" coils. He is correct, in that they stopped being used during the time at the end of PF Coupe production and the beginning of 2+2 production, but as to exact chassis numbers I could not say.

Re: Resistor sparkplugs
For the pre-Testarossa cars, non-resistor plugs are the best approach. You want to get as much spark energy to the cylinder as you can. As a general rule, we stay away from resistor plugs.

Re: Ignition system
Tom: I would be careful regarding the spark plug connectors. Certainly, by about #6500, 330's used the Bosch style Bakelite connectors. I agree early 330's used black rubber boots, but the Bakelite connectors definitely appear later on the cars.

Re: 330GT 2+2 power steering problem
Jim: Most power steering pumps are self bleeding, but you should start the engine and cycle the steering from stop-to-stop a few times to make sure it is completely bled.

Re: Is Lenny Benson a Broker?
It is a different world out there today. My advice is to NEVER acknowledge you own a Ferrari to somebody who you do not know over the phone. I just tell the caller, they have the wrong person. I tell them I own a Toyota, and am not sure I have ever seen a Ferrari. Better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Brake bleeding sequence & tricks 250 Gte
Tom: The problem with the GTC clutch is the outlet line from the master goes up and then down in the shape of a "U". This allows air to be trapped at the top of the curve and fluid will just flow underneath the air and not move it. Reverse bleeding from the slave will usually push the air back to th...

Re: FRAM oil filter - worst in quality test
Jim: I was afraid when I made my post that it would open a can of worms. However, it is open now, so here goes. 1. I suspect dealers install the UFI filter because that is what Ferrari supplies to them for all the late 330 and later cars up through 308/328, BBi and Mondials. UFI #23.162.02 is the pa...

Re: FRAM oil filter - worst in quality test
Martin: I know all about the various tests that show Fram filters to be poor quality, and I have stopped using them on most cars. HOWEVER, the Fram PH2815 is the ONLY filter that has the specific specs needed for the full flow unit on the 250, 275 and 330 motors that use the two filters. The PH 2815...

Re: dual point timing, 330 with S85 Dist.
John's reply is good. However, you should EXPECT to have the point gap (dwell) change as you move the point plate. In theory it should not happen, but in reality it almost always does. So you find yourself chasing both phasing and dwell as you set up the distributors. That is why a Distributor machi...

Tom: With today's fuels, it is common to need one size larger Idle Jets. That will probably cure your symptoms.

Re: Weber 40 DFI question
Tom: Yes there is an adjustment. If you look at the accelerator pump diaphragm cover, you will see TWO holes where the pump arm pivots. By moving the pin that holds the arm in the cover from hole to hole, you can change the total volume of pump supply. Carefully observe the arm "stroke" with the pin...

Re: Campy wheels - GT 2+2 and GTC
Tom: Your comments are well thought out and you make valid points. My concerns about the judging, both in the past and today, is the remarkable inability of some judges to admit they are wrong even when confronted by factory photos and records. I agree judging is a thankless task made worse by lack ...

Re: Campy wheels - GT 2+2 and GTC
Ed: Please don't take this post as a condemnation of what you are doing. I believe your approach for your client, who wants to show the car, is normal for today's Ferrari World. However, 330 wheels were never clear coated when new. Making a color and finish to be "what the judges like" is just so wr...
