Re: Exhaust Clamps

Thanks Jim. Just as I finished these I just happen to go on eBay and there are some on there that are being reproduced. If you type in Ferrari exhaust clamp you'll see them in different diameters and you're probably going to find the one you need right there. I believe They were $34.50 each with $5...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Will do Cory, Thanks. I have plans to make several new grilles and have several check strap pins ready to go, just need to know if anyone has bearing washers on their checkstraps. (see my thread on these) Cory can you kindly check size 13 please. To update you all on my progress: With winter well an...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

For some reason the RH side of the picture appears cropped when I view it, so if anyone has a problem seeing measurement 20, just left click on the image. Thanks.

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Today I made a cardboard template for the Centre Tunnel. This highlighted quite a lot of issues with not having any reference points in the big hole where my cars floor used to be. I suppose what I need is to measure and record a 330’s floor to make sure I get it right. (It’ll be an expensive mistak...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Thanks Dieter, I think some cars are much better than others, and some must have simply been "got at" by previous owners! I've just finished the front body supports to the chassis and engine bay inner wings, so I'm now looking at making the missing centre tunnel inside the car over the next few week...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Thanks Tim,

Great information.

So far this seems to indicate a tolerance of around 3/8" to 1/2" on the bodywork of a 330.
Can anyone else confirm this?

It would be good to have this authenticated/documented.

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

On the straight edge across the top of the wings measuring down to 12 o clock on my wheel arches I get 175mm RH side and 184mm LH side, 9mm or 3/8” difference side to side. This is replicated when I measure vertically from the seam at the base of the wings to the opening for the wing vent. One side ...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Ok, the next biggest and confusing result I have found is the arch profile height on the front. This makes the car look as if its riding higher or lower from side to side, when the car is sat level and true. Take a straight edge (softwood etc) that won’t mark the paintwork and lay it across the top ...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Thanks Guy's

2mm is a very good tolerance compared to the cars I've measured, but also confirms the theory that the shells are wider on one side????

It would be interesting to see what more cars are like.

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Thanks Tim, Thats what I was kinda hoping for. But not just to help me. To help everyone in future with some sort of reference data. This would be much better than anecdotal and urban myths. It could start with the measurements I showed in the two photo's and build to much more over time. A local re...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Hi Cory, Yes the bodyshell had sagged and I have pushed and pulled it in all directions to get it back into shape. But what I'm asking isn't about my car. I'm trying to understand what the original factory tolerances were to see what is and isnt acceptable. Once I know that I can push and pull my ca...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Tom, Cory, Thanks, that certainly makes sense. I think the real question I am trying to understand is what’s the accepted tolerance. I do not want to chase the impossible dream on getting the car mm perfect when that’s not how it should be. I understand entirely about the suspension set up, bushes a...

Re: 330GT 2+2 Bodyshell Rebuild

Whilst repairing my 330 bodyshell and rebuilding the chassis, I have taken literally hundreds of measurements used string and even a laser line to get the chassis pretty much millimetre perfect. The shell has been causing me no end of trouble. Over the last year I have been walking around car shows ...
