Re: Mixed Feelings

The golden screwdriver idea seems much better to me than a dead piston. I agree our cars often need some service, but hopefully we are doing minor servicing a LOT more often than major overhauls.

Re: Mixed Feelings

Why should the Grimey award be something indicating a major mechanical failure, like a burned piston or similar? Isn't the goal to actually be able to drive our cars whenever and wherever we want to do so? Jim Glickenhaus does not take his priceless Ferraris to events to break down with blown engine...

Re: Mixed Feelings

I understand Tom's dilemma. I took my Queen to Corning for FCA2007, thoroughly cleaned but not really restored by me. (The previous owner had done a lot of appearance items and I had helped do a full engine overhaul.) I entered the concours mostly to get a list of what the judges thought could be do...

Re: self leveling rear suspension in 365's

Agreed on it being one of the great cars to drive. Karl Ludvigsen called the 365 GT 2+2 "The Magnificent GT" in his contemporary road test in Sports Car Graphic when the model was new. It is still true today, given that you accept the pinnacle of technology of the late 1960s as OK to still use today...

Re: Missing cover over engine mount?

I also had these missing on my 365. They were easy to fabricate from aluminum and I also used tapped small screws (the 5 mm sounds about right). I used only two screws per side as in the diagrams. They have been in place for 4 years now.

Re: FCA Judging

What would happen if there were multiple Silver and Gold awards? That might help to encourage more people to come and enter for judging -- just as those with the solidly platinum level cars know they can take home a trophy, even theirs is not the "best" one in the group that day. A 92 point car is w...

Re: 365 GTC clutch release bearing

I had the same issue on my 2+2 and had to replace the sleeve. Terry Myr found the right part through his contacts and it was NOS with the original cosmoline covering.
