The oil temp sender located on the bottom of the oil pan can be a source of some reading problems. They often become faulty over time or when oil gets into the restive element. Before you invest in a cooler check the sender out. The 250's and 275's rarely need an oil cooler unless raced on a long tr...

I have found that extreem care is needed when lowering the gasket down on the head, as the threads on the studs can easilly tear the material if perfect alignment of the holes were not realized. First, I set the gasket on top of the studs and see if there are any holes that do not align, some may no...

The above mentioned tips will usually get you going again. The main issue would be do you hear the click - click from the electric fuel pump when you switch it on? If not that could be the problem. A quick road fix has usually been a slight tap on the bottom of the electric pump to jar it into actio...

Rudy, to help the OD have a long and painless life I always depress the clutch when switching in or out of it. This is especially true with the higher torque 330's. This is a British product and not intended to have a long rugged life. Treat it well and it will last a lifetime. Jim Riff

Are you talking about the lower portion that houses the points? This would be extreemly hard to reproduce on anything but a CNC machine, but to what avail? They rarely ever go bad and there is no market for them, at least not enough to even recoup any costs. As for the caps, again very hard to do, a...

Manuals like tools only count in concourses, and your reprint contains the same info as the origionals. So save the $4200 for something that really counts. Collectors and lirerature sellers are pushing these prices up as you can see from the ads. They don't make a Ferrari look or run any better; hav...

John, "OH" those nuts! Well the same applies, they tighten onto sometimes die cast materials, or plastic/fiber items in the switches, and excess force can damage those very expensive controls - especially the wiper switch. A small dab of non hardening Loctite could keep them from vibrating about. Bu...

John, these types of nuts were intended to be finger tightened, so as not to crush the part they were holding. This is especially true of the ones on the air cleaner housing.

Tar tops were used into the Daytona era, and were the best that Italy could do at the time. Today the current sealed ones are much better. I always choose an all black type and pull off all stickers. Concourse rules do not ask that the battery be judged, but make it look the best that you can. Jim R...

Pertronix has fitted the older Ferrari distributors at one time in the past, and checking with them may reveal their part number. These as Tom has pointed out they fit inside the distributor and seem to be very reliable. The old CDI igintion systems had an eventual wear out mode, as the large MFD ca...

One of the rewarding and fun parts of owning these vintage cars is the continued "fine tuning" of the details on them. As each little problem or repair is completed a feeling of satisfaction is experienced. If you owned a perfect or possibly new car and just parked it each night and never had the fu...

Tom, as an FCA concours judge I have been asked many of these same questions during judging, and my personal take is that each car is to be judged against the standards of the FCA- most inportant is the origional build concepts. If a color is questioned and no proof either way as to what it was orig...

NAPA can order these filters from their warehouse, part # 3142. As Tom indicated the likelyhood of a major gas siphon from the tank is almost certain. A dry tank is the best bet. Never have any electrical equipment or lighting anywhere near this operation, as fire is the result! If possible try not ...
