The other notable thing about the numbers is the discrepancy between right and left banks overall. When you're getting to the bottom of what's wrong with #3, figuring out why there is a clear difference between the 2 banks should be a priority as well.

Ok, maybe I can put this to rest -- the confusion for me boils down to this I think: there are 2 times when the lobes point to 5 and 7 o'clock (or 4 and 8 o'clock as John says). The way I described it was when the cam lobes are pointing away from their respective arm(s) and when the cam lobes are tu...

Thanks for the speedy response, Tom. Ok, first I think we have established--as you say and as I verified--that R&A are wrong in claiming that you can/should set valves on paired cylinders at the same time (i.e., 1&6, 7&12, etc.). If nothing else, this should benefit everyone here who reads R&A to kn...

question about setting valve clearances

I’ve been wrestling with valve adjustment today, and have a rather specific question for someone in the know. Sorry this is so long, but I hope to be clear. I have been using as guides both the Roush & Apen (R&A) and Bishop (B) books, which at first glance appear pretty helpful. Yet, they appear to ...

cigarette lighter pictures

Hi Tom, Per your query, here are some photos of the cigarette lighter from my 330 America. I'm 99.999% certain it's original to the car, so it appears that the knob from the one on the left in your photo should replace the other one. http://128.111.223.42/america/lighter1.jpg http://128.111.223.42/a...

After installing the original springs, I thought I would post the results, for anyone who might want to know for reference. The front measurements are now 15.5 inches (from center of hub to lowest part of the wheel cut out) and 27.25 inches (from the ground to lowest part of wheel cut out). The rear...

Seeking a 250 GTE front clip

Hi all,

Does anyone have available, or know of the whereabouts of, a front clip for a 250 GTE? I recently met a fellow owner whose 250GTE was rudely greeted by a bus. Ugly and tragic.

If you have any leads, please PM me.

Thanks.

Also, William, be aware that perhaps the alternator is ok but that at idle the system may not be charging itself. It sometimes requires driving (higher revs) to go to positive. Start with the battery and go from there.

Enjoy the trip, enjoy your family, and enjoy an amazing country filled with incredible people. I spent a month with my wife traveling the east coast of Australia some years back and found the people to be genuine, warm, and accomodating, as I'm sure you will too.

Thanks to everyone for the valuable information. My rear springs have the same measurements as Jon Brent's and my fronts have the same measurements as Michael Greenspan's. For those following along, I also measured my car from the ground (rather than from the hub), to compare to Tom's recent measure...

Not even a nibble, huh? Ok, how about a more simple question: For those who believe they have the original springs on their 250 GTEs/330 Americas, can you please tell me the distance from the center of the hub to the lowest portion of the wheel cut out, both front and rear. I can infer the rest from...

If you're interested in this car, do a search on "6343" on this forum to see some earlier comments I made on the car when it was recently for sale in Santa Barbara.
