Re: carburator nuts

If you valve bounce and Alfa Romeo Nord engine (105 series twin cam) these caps have been known to dislodge ... but then if you valve bounce any engine expensive things happen. In this case the gap between the rocker face and the top of the cap would be thousands of an inch ... but the skirt of the ...

Re: Degreeing cams?

Two weeks ago Tom was saying to me about how he had written a post about the degreeing situation with the cams on the car they were working on and then stripped all that part off because he felt there would just be a bunch of comments debating this. I was thinking what the hell is Tom talking about...

Degreeing cams?

Tom, I cannot see how degreeing a twisted cam solves the problem. Surely you can only get some of the cylinders right. Usually when a camshaft is degree'd (I believe) the closest cylinder to the sprocket end of the camshaft is used to set the correct orientation of the cam. Thus if the cam is twiste...

Re: Sorry to report, but it is still happening - 3 cars lost :-(

God help me, I contributed to that debate again, breaking Bayer's adage about feeling good . . . . . 10-15 years ago I decided that I am going to stand up against reclothing old cars because the replicas will never have any real historic value and won't appreciate as the time goes by like an origin...

Re: Sorry to report, but it is still happening - 3 cars lost :-(

Okay, I can see Tom's point. I'm only fueling the fire. I've tried before not to respond but I will try harder. It seems to me the more noise about replicas there is, the more people take notice of the threads and then more non-enthusiasts get excited about making a replica. The first time I came ac...

Re: Sorry to report, but it is still happening - 3 cars lost :-(

I'm further sorry to report that it seems so many still do not care and simply consider any "ugly" old Ferrari to be perfect replica material. Referring back to the thread I posted above. I give up. I guess they all lust after the same woman (poor girl), and if they are not so lucky force their unlu...

Re: Sorry to report, but it is still happening - 3 cars lost :-(

Yep totally agree Tom. I'd rather race prepare the 250GT 2+2, even if it meant comprehensive modification than create a replica. He has lost Ferrari ownership and created a car that has a few Ferrari parts ... it is not a GTO and never will be. I wish I would win Lotto ten times so I could become on...

Handmade Alloy 250 GTO

I'm a New Zealander so I'll appologise on behalf of the car enthusiasts in that country. NZ'ers can just about make anything ... this time unfortunately.

Re: Don't you mean 125 not 166

Okay you are right :) ... learnt something more. [quote=http://forix.autosport.com/8w/intltr54.html] When Mercedes resurrected a trio of pre-war two-stage supercharged W154 cars and shipped them to Argentina for a couple of formule libre races at the start of 1951, Gonzalez trounced them in both eve...

Re: Don't you mean 125 not 166

Okay did some research and the F2 2 litre single seaters were called 166's ... learnt something :). Pretty sure though the supercharger came from a 125 ... which I thought there was a surviving chassis and almost most of the motor. Many year ago the Classic and Sportscar mag showed a photo of such a...

Don't you mean 125 not 166

Tom, I'm curious about the 2 references to 166s in your recent road trip. The first was in Bob Wallaces shop and was a single seater using a 212 engine. I did not realise any 166's were actually single seaters. The second was in Patrick Otis' shop, the first stage of the supercharger. Surely we are ...

Re: 330 America (#5061) 99% Finished

The best thing that could happen to this car is the first stone chip ... from then on it will be enjoyed for what it is, a car.

Anyway, atleast another 2+2 has been restored :) ... excellent.
