Perhaps the Alfa restoration shop in the UK might be able to advise you the vendor where they purchase the door mechanism from and that vendor may be able to provide the component you require; just a thought.

Have had some success in the past with a product named "Goof Off" available at the Big Box home improvement stores. Product comes in yellow cans with red top, advise use in only highly ventilated areas and keep away from painted surfaces; basically treat it as if it were brake fluid in its potential...

Believe the ignition wires you have on your GTC are 1960s aftermarket as seen here: > http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251432197288?lpid=82
They are Whitaker Supronic III patent no. 3212044 - this would suggest that they were replaced in the distant past.
