It seems that the definition of 90 wt, 140 wt and so forth, is being overlooked. For example, a 250 wt gear oil will, when it heats up, thin out to be the same viscosity as a 90 wt sitting in your garage at "room" temperature. I would bet the 250 wt oil recommended for the earlier cars was thinner (...

I looked up Spiriax S on the Shell site - the two oils in the S product line are 75W - 90 or 80W - 140. The product code, as you can understand after all these years of development, is no longer the same. But the product specs would be for the same type of application, and the oils performance bette...

Differential Lube
I notice that most modern differentials use a lower weight lube than the older cars (250 wt or so for both my 330 and '47 Ford. Is this because of better grease formulation? And if so, would we be better off switching to the modern 80 - 90 wt lube, especially if synthetic is used, which has a much h...

Ammeter Fluctuation
Does it do the same while the car is stopped but running? If so, you might find the problem more readily. Bypass the voltage regulator to see if it stops - this woulld overcharge the battery if continued for very long, but if the fluctuation quits, the Voltage regulator is at fault. Otherwise start ...

A wife named Sue
Hey Tom, I thought it gave me a pretty good setup line, I suspect you were remembering last years picture, where Judy was labeled Sue. If I had the names, I think I could match them all up. Your # 2 is --- Politic, I think, and #8 is Brian ????, and I think the blond lady #19 is his wife. I am proba...

Tom Yang's Party
We loved every bit of the party, even though we had to leave early, so as to get a Sundays worth of stuff done. Mike and Marie are unexcelled as hosts - and I include the the kids. The guys and gals were great - what a sociable bunch. And technically competent too. We missed Art - he got the ball rol...

Attendance at party
My wife and I will be there - but not the Ferrari; the pinion seal sprung a leak too late to get it fixed. I could use it to oil the dirt roads to keep the dust down, I guess, like the old days! Oh well, what is one less old used car anyway. It is the people who like those cars that count. See you s...

Water Pump seal.
to reiterate - the first seal kit from Ferrari did not make it out of the shop - it leaked during test drive. The spring was replaced with the original (heavy) spring. After 1200 miles coolant started to pour out of it. This time the rubber boot had split in 2 places. It is not just the carbon disc ...

Rosso Rubino - or other red.
Hi Owen All colors, but especially red, are are notorious for looking totally differnt under varoius Lights. Then there is the problem of reproducing the color if photographed and saved it after it is manipulated by the camera, the film or the digital color profile, followed by displaying it with th...

Spare Parts
If anyone needs/wants a new pair of front springs for a 330, which does not have the extra weight of A/C, P/S, I can bring them to Tom's party. Let me know. I bought them from FAF years ago, installed them when the front end was renovated, but had to get a stiffer set made. The car had a posture lik...

Air Shocks
The Buick RoadMonster (and probably the other GM) big wagons had Load leveler Air shocks up to 1996. Both Delco and Gabriel replacement air-over shocks are available (Gabriel at JC Whitney). The electric air pump and other parts ought to be easily avilable if needed, also. Don't know if they are sui...
