Dear Yangsters, Installaton is a piece of cake. All it takes is Bryan and Michael plus about six guys going off shift from a local sports pub. We were going to worry about the exhaust system and which mufflers to use but since the exhaust ports are already facing aft and they are already close to th...

Dear Michael,

What else would you expect from and old Mini and Moke owner? By the way the sound might be a bit different also.

Best regards,

Robert

Dear Fellow Yangsters,

Michael was complicit in putting the motor into the van - it really ought to be quite a bit more peppy now don't you think?

Best regards,

Robert

Dear Gearheads, Rudy has it right but it needs a slight expansion of his definition. The first half of the lever travel has the purpose of axially moving the Bendix (the pinion which engages the ring gear of the flywheel) forward into engagement with the flywheel ring gear. The last part of the leve...

Dear Kare,

Might suggest contacting John Whittington in Woodstock, Virginia for answers to your distributor questions. I had him test, adjust and set up mine.

He should still be at: jwwhittington@gmail.com

Best regards,

Dear Tom W, The first time after I put a muffler on it to drive across country and started the motor, the racket was so scary that I shut it off immediately. It makes noises that you do not hear when running a straight exhaust system. The reason comes from the reversing cam drive gear lash each time...

Dear gearheads,

Status report as of this evening, clutch work and some minor details remain but overall it is looking pretty good I think (but of course I am biased).

Best regards,
Robert

Dear Tom, You and I may be too busy with these pieces to talk about a long ago trip. Will stop work on the motor for a break and tackle a different part of this extended project. Vince made this look so easy... http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh82/RADM_photo/differential.jpg Best regards, Robert

For those interested, here are a couple of more progress shots, much left to do, then I start the differential rebuild. The tedious job of setting the proper tappet clearances is over. With Bryan's help we were able to overcome all of the tappet spring pressure and installed the cams. http://i254.ph...

Dear Vince, Well, you have done it again, superb depiction of the multi-disc clutch operation from very little source data be begin with. Thank you. Attached is the progress of starting the fitting of the gear train on the front on the motor. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh82/RADM_photo/gears....

Dear fellow gearheads, After Michael's invaluable help, more progress has been made. The crankshaft is in, the rod caps have been torqued to give the right amount of bolt stretch, the main bearing caps are torqued and the oil feed lines to the mains are installed and safety wired. Little by little ....

Attached photo shows the process of installing the cylinder head assembly to the crankcase. The tight fitting O ring seals around each liner make this a "harder than it looks" job. Fortunately a highly skilled and trained Ferrari technician made a house call to assist in completing this task. http:/...

Dear fellow gearheads, Next lesson is the flywheel clutch arrangement. It is a dry multi disc clutch with nine plates alternating steel/aluminum sandwiched between the pressure plate and the flywheel face. Alternate discs are splined to the inside face of the flywheel and the balance of the discs ar...
