Dancing Ammeter

After the roughly 500 mile round trip cruise to the Tom Yang East party, I have gained much more confidence in the car. There is a small issue that seems to have gotten a little worse. The ammeter dances between +40 and -40. Sometimes it is a slow back and forth of only 1-2 amps and then suddenly wi...

Brake proportioning valve

I have just had mine "rebuilt". The quotes are because the only new part that was added was the rubber boot. I described the problem in another post but in short after a hard brake at low speed the brakes locked. I bulled the car back into the garage and about two weeks later they self released. Whe...

Package Shelf Defroster Holes

Tom - if this one doesn't some out I may have to go for the shag. Kerry - I was going to show the machinist what you did. Thanks for the words about the punch - I will call the upholstery shop and found out about what they used. It may well have to go to 1/4 inch steel. I will know more tomorrow whe...

Package Shelf Defroster Holes

I was very pleased with the redo of my interior. But, the package shelf defroster holes kind of wandered around. The shop has agreed to redo the shelf and I thought that I should supply a template similar to the way Kerry did his. Kerry's is 15 holes by 16 holes and about 3.5 inches square and so I ...

Locked Brakes

Thanks to all for the suggestions. The problem now is since the brakes seem to have freed up without my actually doing anything I don't know what caused the problem. I am thinking of trying to just repeat getting the car out of the garage and hitting the brakes as I did last time and see if they loc...

Locked Brakes

Kerry - thanks for the suggestion. Actually this car has already suffered from just that issue. The former owner was experiencing exactly that problem on the way home and thought that he could make it back. He was very unpleasantly surprised when the heating caused a fire in the front wheel well. I ...

Locked Brakes

Like all those fifties TVs that were all snow until the moment the TV repairman walked in the door, the solution was to just ask for an answer to the problem. I actually tried to rotate the front wheel at about 9AM today. After Tom's reply, I went back to the garage to at least try the vacuum booste...

Locked Brakes

Last week I pulled the car out of the garage and after leaving the driveway had to brake. I got started again and the car felt like it was dragging and as soon as I took my foot off the accelerator the car quickly stopped. I thought it might be a momentary hiccup of the brakes so I started off again...

It'salways nice to hear that your car looks "racier". As it happens I agree with Yale. Somehow the car looks as he has described it. As far as what springs are where: The front coil springs are the pair that I bought through this site as NOS. The NOS rear leafs that I got did indeed crack as they we...

Thanks all for the suggestions. The best part of this is that it may be the least expensive thing I will do to keep the car running. I guess I will put the ersatz factory tool kit in one wheel well and then the real stuff in the other. Can I get the glass enclosed fuses at the local NAPA store or ar...

What do you need with you when the car dies?

This post is in two parts. The first is the generic question of what should you have as your emergency kit for the inevitable "it won't ..."?? The second part is the story that prompts the question. I took a drive this morning to meet Yale at Automotive Restoration in Stratford Ct. They recently did...

Just a comment on how good a deal these plates are. I just got my car back after a redo of the complete interior and I used the material that Luke had bought and then sold to me at his cost. I am extremely pleased with the work done but my finished cost for the plates was way more than 4 times the c...
