Make no mistake! It's a real Ferrari V12 under the hood. This is GM CEO, Roger Smith’s old car. Rumor has it that he wanted a Ferrari real bad but didn't want to betray his allegiance to GM. So he had his Ferrari's engine disguised to look just like a Chevy V8.

Matt,

Interesting story. Wide consoles were pretty popular among the exotica of the late 60's, early 70's. A lot of the period Maseratis, Lambos and even Ferraris (365 GTC/4) had huge center consoles. Maybe this is why the fellow was compelled to modernize.

Luke,

If you have don't have the right heat range plugs and if the gaps are on the narrower end of the range, the plugs can load up.

Vapour lock on a cold day is not as likely. It could bethat the mechanical pump is becoming ineffective.

Luke,

Great pics.

Do you think that maybe your plugs got loaded up in the traffic?

PS.

I always imagined Andretti as an average height person.

Paul Schwartz who keeps DaytonaRegistry.com had his wheel recovered last year. You may ask him. I beleive he was very happy with the results.

Andrew,

I am so sorry about your misfortune.

These engines unfortunatley have become quite the thing for hot rodders. So, the Ferrari community is probably not the only place you should keep an eye on.

I have seen a few hot rods with four-cam Ferrari V12 engines, all chromed to the hilt.

Andy,

This is really cool. Thanks. Though, updating it will be an undertaking I presume.

Even if this were the remains of a GTO it would still be an unrealistic proposition.

Thanks Jim for the advice. I don't think castor and camber can be adjusted on my car. They are fixed.
