William, if your car is fitted with a Euro size bracket/trimm/holes, then make a small bracket that picks up the Euro holes and will also pick up the holes in the US plate. I use a piece of aluminum as the backing/adapting plate. Jim

The owners manuals for the 250 and 330 series specified Frams. In concourse judging either would be correct. Jim

William, you fill the diff up until it beging to run out of the filler hole. The 250 weight is a chore to get into the fill hole, but if you warm the oil in the sun for awhile it will pump a little easier. I use a turkey baster, but it is still a mess! Jim

William, sounds like a lot of current drain in the car, as the ignition usually only draws 5-8 Amps. Something else must be draining heavilly. Try pulling fuses one by one to see what area is loading this down. (engine off). Sounds like the generator is doing it's job, but the heavy load is taxing i...

If the parking lights are blowing fuses it is most likely in a socket. Try removing the socket assemblies and look for burned or corroded sockets. Also check the rear license plate light socket. Clean and reassemble and check the if it has cured the problem. Use some silicone grease in the sockets a...

William, First do you have an alternator or generator, as this will make a big difference in the analysis. When you say the ammeter is "pegged" negative do you mean just over to the left or up against the stop/edge? This could be excessive drain possibly some added electrical load or a possible shor...

Sorry, the last line above should have read - used in everything from my 275GTB/4 to our 512BBi. The PH2815 for the 250's and 330's are carried on the shelf at Checker. The PB50's for these are becoming hard to locate as stated.

My (AZ) Checker Autoparts store orders the Fram 2801-1, now renumbered by Fram in their new system as PH28041. NAPA always wants to cross reference to their NAPA house brand when I have asked them for this number. These are also used in many Porsches and are quite popular. I have never used any othe...

The battery will only accept a charge when the applied voltage is over 12.6 Volts. If the charging system does not produce voltage greater than 12.6V, then no charge takes place. If the ammeter reads negative when loads are applied, this is another indication that the charging system is not carrying...

The 250's have a generator not an alternator as origional, and these can have charging problems as time goes by. In any case simply puy a volt meter across the battery and check the voltage with the engine above 2000 RPM. If it is less then 12.5V after a few moments and you do not see any upward vol...

Jim, vapor lock can happen anytime anyplace, there are many factors that can contribute to this problem. As Tom indicated altitude can be a factor, carb tuning - possible silghtly lean, timing - running a little hotter cyl temp, weak mechanical fuel pump - low fuel pressure, location of fuel lines, ...

Jim, what do you mean "plugs loading up"? If it is vapor lock then there is no fuel getting to the carbs. This sounds like a classic vapor lock problem. Do you keep the electric pump running when it gets hot, and is the electric pump working correctly? Jim Riff

No they are not NOS, as the old Englebert were pretty bad tires to start with. Some owners may have an origional as a spare for show only. They are modern expensive repros that look very nice. Jim Riff

Scott, find the terminal block as described wherever it may be located, and clean and tighten as I outlined - before firing up the rebuilt alternator. This could save another rebuild if the connections are high resistance due to corrosion. Jim
