Re: Vapor lock solution for carb cars
Some things I would try. 1 Make sure the ignition timing is correct and the points are phased correctly. Retarded timing will put more heat into the exhaust. 2 Make sure the mixture is correct especially the idle mixture jet. Most of your driving is on this jet. A lean mixture will put more heat int...

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Issues
Were you able to check the spring to verify it is the right spring rate? Checking it in the installed condition and comparing it to your good pump would be the best bet since that will take into account any installation differences. The spring rate has a direct correlation to discharge pressure. Che...

Re: Looking for 2 aux venturis for 40 DCL6 carbs
Could you make one from a 40DCO aux venturi? On the DCO the outside is a ring, if you turn down the od to match the od of yours and then cut the ring off so the ends are square like yours you get a workable solution although I would recommend replacing all 6 of then so you are sure each carb will ac...

Re: Cam Rollers
The press fit between the roller and the bushing for something like this should be 0.0015 to 0.0020 inches of interference. There should be 0.0008 to 0.0012 inches of clearance between the bushing and the pin.

Re: Oil Change
John, I do not recommend using the hose you ordered from McMaster Carr. The EPDM cover on it is not compatible with engine oil. I also have concerns with the base hose, the non fluoronated version of this material is also not compatible. The best hose material is viton or fluorocarbon. This material...

Re: Correct Spark Plug Boots for a 330 GTC
The correct ends are Bosch. There are a rust colored bakelight material and are commonly found on 60s VW Bugs. These ends just screw onto the ignition wires and have a 1000 ohm resistor in them. I would bet the one's you received from GT are correct.

Re: Plug wire fire
I think you have a mixture issue on that barrel of the carb causing those two cylinders to run very hot. Look at the paint on the exhaust shield, it is burnt. I suspect your exhaust was glowing red hot and it burned your ignition wires. Note the plug ends show the most damage adjacent to where the e...

Re: Brake line hoses
I have seen a number of original girling brake hoses from the 60's. I agree with Steve that the photos he posted would be original. However I am not aware of anyplace that sells them with that texture. Generally if they have that texture and are not the ribbed style they should be replaced. Cheers Jim

330 GTS Pinch weld trim
Hi Tom, In light of your recent post I took these photo of the barn find 330 GTS at Gooding the other week. Thought you may like another data point from a car that has not had this item messed with since it was built. I was a little surprised by the ribbing on the trim, the trim I have seen in the p...

Re: 330 main bearing groove installation
The crankshaft is drilled to receive oil feed from the oil pump thru the main bearings. In turn, these mains feed and distribute oil under pressure, thru the crankshaft, to the rod big ends. Would the drilled passages in the crankshaft have any bearing on where the grooved/holed shell half is place...
