Wear on the main bearings was my first thought but I would rather not go there. I liked the rubber hose theory much better. Anyway I will pull one or two main caps tonight just to make sure. I have had the pressure regulator apart, there was some minor scoring on the piston that I cleaned up. Cleani...

Enzo, Did you have any luck with your oil pressure problem? My oil pressure also increases about 20 psi when I decelerate (I haven't noticed anything on acceleration but I have not checked either). Tom’s suggestion about the rubber hose made a lot of sense to me so I dropped my lower oil pan. The ho...

You may want to check the ring gear on the flywheel. If it was replaced when the work was done on your engine it may be in backwards. Typically one side is chamfered to ease the engagement of the starter, (note I have not seen a 246 ring gear). If the non chamfered side is towards the starter it wil...

Cylinders 3 and 5 are not that good but may be able to live with them. Cylinder 8 has one of the following problems, leaking head gasket, bad pistons rings and / or damaged valve. When the leakage test is being done if you can hear a hissing noise in the exhaust, the exhaust valve is bad. If you hea...

A Jaguar D-type distributor cap will not work. The D-type used the same cap as the XK120 (wires out the top), which is different than the one Roger is looking for (wires out the side). This link has some unusual Lucas distributor caps, although I believe they are a little different than the one Roge...

Did you want to do caster, camber, toe or all of them? Toe is the easiest and most common. The trammel method works well, I've also used a 2x2 with cardboard stapled on the ends. Just mark the cardboard once in front of the wheel and once behind. it, the difference is your toe. Currently I use two 9...

To go back and answer your original question. I would estimate the horse power increase to be around 13 Hp to go from 3 carbs to 6 (assuming you use the same size carbs on the 6 as the 3). This is based on flow test experience on a Jaguar D-type intake manifold, which is pretty much a straight shot ...
