Re: valve adjustment screws
OK, here goes. In the 1980s there were a number of batches of bad valve adjusting screws. Almost all the various vendors had some bad screws in the inventoy at one time or another, so nobody was immume from buying bad screws. I do not recall if the bad screws came from the factory, or from an outsid...

Re: installing engine
You can probably do it that way, but it is MUCH easier to leave the headers off the motor when it is lowered into the car. You might want to drop the headers down into the engine compartment first and slide them to the side out of the way, just to be sure they are there and you do not encounter any ...

Re: 250 Pionion Shaft Seal
Based upon the numbers quoted on the seal, I would suspect it is a 60x40x10 standard lip seal.

Re: 330 GTC Questions
I was waiting for somebody to post the GTC wheel paint, but since nobody stepped forward, I dug through my old records and here it is. This is a correct match from 1974, before the original paint had time to "yellow" and discolor. It is a 1960 Chrysler Silver (there was only one silver that year). D...

Re: Carb Synching
John: As to your question related to exhaust gas temps, absolutely they are effected by air/fuel mixtures. While numerous other items also can alter the temps (ignition advance, compression ratio, etc.), using a temp gun can be an effective tool in checking mixtures. We have an Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM...

Re: Carb Synching
Tom: My book was printed in 1992. It is titled Ferrari Market Letter Tech Tips Volume 1, complied by Dyke & Sue Ridgley. I would be happy to scan the carburetor aticles and have them available for interested owners. This book are long out of print, and I have no more copies, so I have nothing financ...

Re: Carb Synching
Come on you guys, you all are supposed to be the experts out there, but I will take a shot at which carbs have Bypass Screws. The first Ferrari to have Bypass Screws was the 40 DFI2 equipped 330 GTC. I believe all DFI's, later DCN's (Daytona), Later DCNF's (Dino) and all the Boxer carbs have Bypass ...

Re: Carb Synching
John: You really want to measure air flow, not vacuum. Now, I certainly have used a Vacuum Gauge to set the idle mixtures, as the gauge will show very small idle speed increases, but I would question a Vacuum Gauge's suitability for actaully synchronizing air flow through carburetors. A comment on u...

Re: Carb Synching
Beyond about 85% throttle opening, any carburetor is flowing the maximun amount of air, as the throttle shafts then restrict flow. So when the carbs are wide open, they are in effect synchronized as long as they have the same size choke tubes installed. Setting the synchronization at idle is most ef...

Re: PLATINUM AWARD 0337GT
Tom: You are absolutely correct. As with Corvettes, Ferraris have now moved to the place where a factory original car in a time capsule would probably be lucky to get a "Silver" award at a major Concours. Unfortunately, I have had all too much experience with this whole situation. As you may know, I...

Re: PLATINUM AWARD 0337GT
All of this points to one of the most difficult decisions that a restorer has to make. That is at what "point in time" do you chose to return the car to? For most normal street cars that is fairly easy , as most people choose to restore the car like it left the factory. However, for cars with a show...

Re: PLATINUM AWARD 0337GT
I now know some more about the car. When Kaempfer bought the car, it came with the block from 0305. Ferrari Classiche had the Block and Heads made, and Modena Motori made the Oil Sump. The 0305 block was then sold on the Paul Schowenberg and reunited with its original Heads and the 0305 car itself. ...

Re: PLATINUM AWARD 0337GT
I had resisted commenting on this thread, as I have so many reasons to question the entire Concours and Judging experience. However, there is more to this than meets the eye. Sway Bar: The article specifically mentions that the sway bar and links were finished this way as that is the way the car app...

Re: 330 GTC emergency triangle
We purchased our GTC in 1974. It was a "two bag" car, with no Triangle. The original idea for the "two bag" toolkits was for the 275 GTB/S cars and their "pockets on either side of the fuel tank in the trunk. The large single bag would not fit and tended to roll around on top of the fuel tank and po...
