Re: Our friends in the path of Sandy

Kerry, it was nice of you to ask. Patty and I are fine, fought a wet basement through the night but all is well. Tom I hope your Mom is okay, my relatives in New Jersey had a lot of trees down.

I second Tom on the Baldwin filters. If you can't find them through a local parts store try Graingers, they should be Baldwin B253.

Re: rear diff leaks

Hi Guys, don't forget to make sure the one or two vents on top of the axle tubes are free from road debris, undercoating and spider nests. If the vents are clogged you will build up pressure in the differential housing and the oil will find the weakest place to push fluid out. Richard Garre Radcliff...

Re: Cross Reference for Clutch Master and Slave

Tom. I'm with you and let me carry that one farther. Any time any of my customers need hydraulics replaced I replace the master, slave and hose or hoses. Sure as hell as soon as you replace one component the other one is sure to fail.

Re: clutch

The last time we did one of these was Mark D's Queen. We did move the rear end back to gain clearance to remove the torque tube and them removed the trans. Replacing the synchros if you have the transmission out is well worth it as it may be the last time it's ever done. The trans is a heavy unit li...

Re: Leaky mechanical fuel pump

Hudson, make sure you check the oil and to see if it's "gasified", the mechanical pump may have pumped some fuel into to the oil sump.

Re: Axial Nut Torque Specification

Jim, since no one seems to answer your question I'll jump in. I'm assuming you're talking about the wheel nut (knock off) for your wheels on your 330. I am opposed to using hammers to remove or install wheel nuts on any center lock wheels. There's always the chance to miss and damage body work, if y...

Re: Rocker Panel Painting

I concur with Tom, no "bumpy" surface on the rocker panels. My 330 had that as well and it must have been painted that way 20 years ago as a rock and chip guard, however to the best of my knowledge it's not correct for the car.

Re: Transmission and Differential Oil

For what it's worth I'll throw this out there. Be careful if you are using GL-5 EP(extreme Pressure) gear oils in transmissions. GL-5 gear oils are produced with sulphur compunds which etch steel components to fill the microscopic pits on gear faces under pressure so the oil adds additional lubricat...

Re: New brake calipers?

Roelofs Ferrari Parts in Holland does produce a piston assembly that will "bolt" up to your existing caliper. These are new components and are supposed to work exceptionally well. Of the few products I've purchased from them they are top drawer. I do think the stainless piston assemblies for older J...

Re: My 365GT2+2's smoking habit

Steve, reluctanly I'm going to jump in here. Two things to consider, first what kind of oil are you using? I have a few customers with vintage Ferraris that use synthetic oil for no other reason than it smokes less, my self included. These are vintage Ferraris with decent compression and leak down. ...

Re: Radiator fans

I concur with Tom on the Flexlite fans. I have installed them on vintage Ferraris including my own 330GT with a dual fan set up as pusher fans. When installed they are well hidden and work very efficiently. Make sure you use external accessory relays to operate so you don't overload the present syst...
