Re: Crank Seal

Gents,

thanks for your replies. I took off the flywheel. Did not see any leakyge from crank. Next took off gearbox bell housing. Sealing ring was hard as concrete. So this is the suspect for slight leakage.

Crank Seal

Dear All, I hope you all had a delightful Christmas. But now for the few days off, I turned again to my GT330. My transmission is out due to rotten rear silent block. Now after this big work I want to replace at least all accessible sealings and wear parts. My engine was overhauled 20 years ago. Les...

Re: 5-speed transmission silent block

Dear all, after a longer interruption at my Gt300 Series2 #8741 I tackled my problem of the transmission. Due to vibrations from the rear axle/transmission shaft I spotted a week transmission support as one of many reasons for the vibrations.(balancing of shaft not wet checked). As the rear axle is ...

Re: rear diff leaks

Hi John, I am not so familiar with american technical terms. I guess when you talk about double lip seal it is what you see in my added picture. In our german terms we call the outer seal "dust lip" and the inner "sealing lip" because function and also contact force is different, but this you know ....

Re: rear diff leaks

Hi John, sorry for my very general comment before. The more I read in this forum I get the feeling that you are a real expert (beside others)as you have a long term experience with those GT´s. I am just a greenhorn on those cars. So I apologize for some unqualified comments. But anyway now after Tom...

Re: rear diff leaks

John, sure I have my axle apart, you doubt it? I replacxed the seals with the type with additional dust seal. I usually fill the gap between dust seal and inner seal with bearing grease. This serves as a reservoir to avoid the real seal from dry running. Also I assume the seal will last longer becau...

Re: Maintenance

Thanks for the clarification,. Now I am on the track again. Some times I struggle hard with your wording because in some cases it is very special. Not even to find anything in the dictionary. But the more I follow up your posts I get more understanding. Now I even have an idea what is an TS-Special....

Re: Maintenance

Just coming back to Yales picture and to Tom´s comment: Tom: "As far I I know, they were always silent blocks on these cars. The design of these things is the inner and outer sleeves are vulcanized to the rubber, so the resistance of the rubber also plays into the movement of the suspension. IMHO Ch...

Re: rear diff leaks

Addendum: I just also have my shaft on the workbench and have not seen a big orifice where overvolume of grease could go out immediatly when shaft contracts. Spline also sealed by an O-ring at end of brass bush. I had to hammer (by rubber hammer) the shaft to the shortest position according to the s...

Re: rear diff leaks

It looks kike this had been a week point to the design and the changed to the universal joint at this spot at the 330 series 2. This joint needs to equalize the angle with every rotation and in addition it receives shocks from the axle. The front robber donot at least is free of shocks. May be the a...

Re: Maintenance

Hi Yale, your worn out bushes did not look to bad. At least most of the rubber material was still there. I am right now rebuilding my whole rear axle and suspension too at my GT330 series 2(nearly done). I am wondering that you had 8 similar bushes. In my case upper bushes looked different than lowe...

Re: Oil Rear GT330 Leaf Springs?

Hello John, You are doing the same job right now as I currently do. You are a little bit ahead, because just today I put together my half shafts to the diff housing after refurbishing. When disassembling I first put out the axle to the side. then as the last I removed the leave springs. When assembl...

Re: 330GT rear coil over shocks

I did this job just 4 weeks ago at my 330 and I was unable to do it without spring compressors. I can check the force now, if there is a request. I am not sure if there were different spring caracteristics were used. My coil springs where marked white and green with paint at a small spot.
