Dented gas tank...

For one second I don't think anyone would lift a car using the gas tank as a jack support, but wait - there's still a lesson to be learned here. Many people have managed to damaged their car seriously by forgetting a randomly placed jack stand under the car when either accidentally or deliberately l...

Re: Trim Pieces below the rockers

Would someone please tell me the strip dimensions - width of the strip and thickness at the centreline - so I can find material as close as possible to 'correct'? How does the fixing work? Are the threaded studs/bolts welded or brazed in? Are they loose in a profiled channel, retained by the head s...

Re: Airport baggage

The most thrilling one I had was when a friend of mine could not resist to buy a slightly used exhaust pipe for his Lancia for a a tenner. Walking into the airport terminal with a used exhaust pipe on one's shoulder was one thing. What followed was anothed. Girl at the luggage desk weighted the pipe...

Re: Airport baggage

Long time ago I got an advise I still like: pack your stuff so that you can slam your bag from above your head into a concrete floor as hard as you can. If even a slightest thought of care goes through your mind, pack it again. If the conveyor does not go up to the plane, they'll throw everything on...

Re: NOS wiper motor

Can you confirm that is the correct Lucas number for 330GT? The part number dates to to 1964-65 or so. Date code changed from year/month into year/week sometime around 1969.

Correct type (6WA?) and specs (150 degree wheel?) - or correct down to the part number... which is...?

Re: Ballast resistor for 330 gtc

Most used resistors come out of various Alfas, Lancias and Fiats so the ohm-rating may vary. They were made in millions (600'000 for Fiat 125 alone), so the prices are... hmm... interesting. Correct price for a dirty old coil with all accessories is around 20 euros or so.

0851GT (and other early PF Coupés)

0851GT is one interesting car! Sort of funny that it looks pretty standard to an untrained eye, but if you take a look any closer you instantly get the feeling that it was hand built to a very high standard with unique details here and there. I think the explanation is that it likely was! Too bad bo...

Re: Dwell Setting

The biggest problem with points is that people are afraid of them. To me it is amusing to some extent that when I was a kid everybody including my mother was happily motoring with point ignited cars no matter if it was -40 degrees Celsius like in Siberia or +40 degrees like in Africa hardly ever exp...

Re: Dwell Setting

When servicing my Marellis I came into same conclusion. I traced it down to each of the points making a contact in slightly different are of the lobe. So even if the single tringle cam is running both set of points, they run on different contour like there were two different cams. The difference sho...

Re: New owner / Fuel Pump

Among first things to check is also how oxidized the fuse & fuse holder is. It may pass current to lit a light bulb, but not enough to wake up the diaphram pump. So just because it is easy: replace the fuse and roll it a little to be sure it makes a proper contact. Have a look at the wires too, an o...
