Don't you mean 125 not 166

Post by PSk »

Tom,

I'm curious about the 2 references to 166s in your recent road trip. The first was in Bob Wallaces shop and was a single seater using a 212 engine. I did not realise any 166's were actually single seaters.

The second was in Patrick Otis' shop, the first stage of the supercharger. Surely we are talking about the 125 single seat race cars in this case, the first Ferrari F1 (if you like)?

Just curious :)

Okay did some research and the F2 2 litre single seaters were called 166's ... learnt something :).

Pretty sure though the supercharger came from a 125 ... which I thought there was a surviving chassis and almost most of the motor. Many year ago the Classic and Sportscar mag showed a photo of such a thing ...

When Mercedes resurrected a trio of pre-war two-stage supercharged W154 cars and shipped them to Argentina for a couple of formule libre races at the start of 1951, Gonzalez trounced them in both events in a supercharged 2-litre Ferrari 166.[/quote]

Hi Pete,

I like the way you answered your own question, and now you are far more informed than I am!
